New M 6 speed or wait for SMG???

Finally drove an M5 this weekend, still like my 7 better but the SMG was noticeably better than my M3. It actually functioned reasonably well in auto mode so I am tempted, but, I bought my son a Mazdaspeed6 which is surprisingly fun and has intensified my desire for a manual transmission.

Whats your preference?

I think the M's are way better suited to SMG. Nothing is more fun than smearing them rear tires, something that is impossible with the 6 speed since you can't turn off traction control.

Drive 'em both.

The M cars in 6 speed are a waste of time..IMHo anything that has the option of an F1 tranny is the way to go.

Not sure if I should pursue this car anyway even though it looks great, still thinking I should go 911/ZO6. I drove a 996 Turbo yesterday as well. It was fun but not really edgy.

A friend just got a 997GT3 so I am hoping to see him and get a quick test drive.

Doug Z06 is the best bang for the buck! That obvious you go 6sp as that is the only option offered.

Wait for the DCT (dual clutch transmission). By then, hopefully the bugs will be worked out.

I really like it. I have driven it twice and its really great. Prices are coming down. My real hang up on the Vette is my wife hates it. Not the car, the stereotype.

She drove my 01' Roadster a few times and would come back smiling cause everyone wants to race the blonde in the Vette.

If I were a baller like you I'd take my GT3 slate gray over natural grey.

I'm picking up a new M6 this afternoon! It will be a 6speed. I will let you know what I think! Should be great though!
@Marc997GT3: I think you are mistaken! It's not a waste of time. The SMG is great, but IMO it loses a certain character that comes with driving a manual. It's really up to personal preference, I enjoy the involvment of using the clutch and shifting through the gears, and making perfect downshifts. It's more fun to me.

I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts. Congrats on the new ride. Pics would be cool too.

Hernando like it or not the M5/6 are super heavy front engine cars..driving a stick in anything but a true sports car is for me a waste and if the offer an F1 type clutch tranny with paddles no one can shift faster then this and thats what I like...the SMG is not bad, DSG is awesome and PDK will be great ...E Gear is also not bad...the shifter in the Enzo and 599 are mindblowing shift speeds...ask TTgangsta...

no big sedan should mate a 6speed. sports car yes but not big heavy sedan. SMG works great for the car and for me.
