New M toy
New M toy
I've got my eye's set on buying a new garage-queen. Basically something to take out on sunny days, roadtrips, occasional track runs and to keep for years to come.
I've considered all options (really, ALL options) and narrowed it down to three alternatives:
( previous M coupe (S50 engine) is now sold)
Z3 M Coupe: ยด02 model with S54 engine, in absolute mint condition. Collectors car with all the bells and whistles. Can't think of a more provocative and raw driving experience this side of a Lotus.
M3 CSL: It's run three times as far as the Z3, but still, it's a CSL.. It's obviously the ultimate track car but will it stand the test of time, designwise? Not so sure. Especially if BMW decide to bring out a new CSL of the E90. 25% higher price than the Z3.
Z4 M Coupe: Brand new with all bells and whistles. Slightly less interesting, and the evident risk of it dating quickly if BMW bring out an engine upgrade (V8) or CSL version. Roughly same price as the CSL.
Points to consider:
- Fun (today and in 5 years time)
- Value (in 5 years time)
What would you do, if you were in my driving shoes?

Another CSL vote-
plus you've already had experience with the z-line before, so it would be nice to experience any m3 at this point-

I'll buck the trend and agree with Marc. If it were going to be a daily driver I would have to agree with the CSL, but for pure fun I think the Z4M would be the best of that group.
As far as value, I have no idea what the market is in the UK. They don't sell well here in the US so you could probably get a decent deal on one.

No brainer...CSL
In terms of fun-factor? Check out Youtube for the M3 vs M3 CSL clip from Fifth Gear...awesome.
That reminds me, what happened to Top Gear in the US??!?!??! It used to be on Discovery, now I'm stuck watching Motorweek. You Brits get all the cool shows!
