Question about post requirements

Can someone enlighten me on why forums require a certain number of posts before allowing other kinds of posts (e.g., for sale, posting pictures, etc.)? I'm not complaining, just curious.

I've seen this in other forums as well and I can't figure it out. It seems to me that it encourages generic atta-boy posts like "Nice ride", or "+1" just so people can run up the score. I would think that just takes up server memory. It's like listening to my sister - she can talk ALOT, but rarely says anything of consequence (the same reason I also don't understand congratulatory messages for hitting posting milestones - I wouldn't want to encourage her).

Is it just me?

I think it's to keep spammers from opening up multiple accounts and quickly posting their wares on the board. Therefore, they'd have to first establish a time commitment to the board before throwing their spam at us.

they'd probably ban you here before you got to 100 "+1" posts anyway.
