Transimision Problems ?? Can it be fixed? 3rd gear Synchro

I have a 2005 Boxter S with 2 K miles and the Synchro on 3rd gear is bad, Dealer says It cant be fixed It has to be raplaced (the whole gear box), Solutions?
Can It be fixed, Synchro replaced? etc?

Synchos CAN be fixed, but it requires an almost complete tear down of the trans. Parts are relatively cheap, but labor will eat you alive. A brand new trans may be the cheaper option, depending on who's doing the install.

I guess this begs the question: How in the hell does the 3rd gear synchro go bad in just 2000 miles?

Problem was also the car brand new went to RUF for the 3,8 engine upgrade so PORSCHE will not fix anything, as a matter of fact here the dealer wont even touch it....

Did you happen to get a trans upgrade at the same time? Can't say I blame them ducking any warranty claims.

Drain your gearbox fluid through a fine screen and have a look. If your gear oil is pretty clean a repair may be in order if you have access to cheap skilled labor. If it looks like a grenade went off inside, the gearbox is probably toast.

Sometimes a synchro will just get nicked from one bad shift. In this case changing the fluid and gentile careful shifts for a while may smooth out and improve the synchro problem.
