I've done a lot of searches on this forum and others and I am still a little lost as to what I can get for an extended warranty.
Here's my situation:
- 2003 C2 Coupe w/ tip
- 25,000 miles
- Minor mods: PSE, PSS9, K&N air filter, body kit, wheels
- Do all my own routine maintenance since I bought it 3 years ago
- Factory warranty expired more than a year ago
- No problems so far
It seems like these cars are much harder than I thought to find a warranty if it's already outside manufacturer's warranty.
My favorite from the past, Warranty Direct, says on their website they won't cover it for that reason. I may try calling them and see what they say over the phone.
I am looking for a warranty that will cover the big ticket items like block issues, IMS, RMS, transmission problems. It would be nice if it covers the A/C, but that and just about anything else I can fix myself for a reasonable price. I just don't want to be stuck with $12-15K for a tranny or engine.
Anyone have any experience with a good warranty that meets these specs?

I've been considering a extended warranty as well for my 02. I'll be interested to see what others have to say. I just had the tranny rebuilt in mine so I don't blame you at all for considering one!
I have an Advantage warranty from a company called Protective, which is about a 100 year old insurance company. I have made 2 claims with no problems at all. It is an exclusionary policy, meaning everything is covered except for items listed as not covered.

p.s.s. Another thing to note is if you have ANY modifications on the vehicle, take them off before going to the dealer/shop. Dealer for obvious reasons, but these insurance companies have the right to come and inspect your vehicle if they so choose before covering even a coverable item. I've once again seen things not covered due to aftermarket parts on a vehicle such as an intake and the company said that without the "racing modifications", the MAF sensor would not have failed... I had one very unhappy S2000 owner!

The typical deductible is $100. They also have limits for things like alignments, so if the price for the alignment exceeds their rate, you pay the difference (Alignment at Champion is $249 and company pays $229 max so I am $20 out of pocket)

My wife got me the car as a b-day gift (hence the handle thanks babe). I paid for the warranty because used cars make her nervous and this is my first p-car. From my reading and the dealers reading of the coverage, RMS and IMS issues are covered so essentially I got it as a 2 year hedge agains the dreaded IMS failure.

I have $0 deductible Warranty Direct, with the dealer handles the claims and negotiations for me. I have been pretty happy. It saved me from RMS, coolant leak, fuel injection etc problems. The saving outweighs the cost (~$3000 for 4 years/50000miles) in my case.
I suggest extended warranty if you got your car used and didn't know how its previous owner used it (even thought it passed PPI and looked good). Bottom line is, if you wanna pay the insurance for a period of couple years, or you have rainy-day fund in case repairs are needed for your car.

I dont think she can afford a Carrera GT currently though...
It seems you got a good deal thnxbabe. As i stated already, Im just letting the community know to be careful with these companies due to some of them being a headache and a half. For me personally, when I do buy my Porsche, (this year) it will be my first Porsche and I myself will get an extended warranty. By the sounds of it, you will not exceed the start up cost of the warranty, which is a gamble when you buy them, but the peace of mind is huge! Good buy imho thnxbabe and if there are anymore questions I can answer, feel free to contact me.

Lolayay... I agree fully that if you buy a Porsche used, buy it from a dealer preferably and get a warranty. However you raise a very good point and that point relates to the "gamble" I speak of above. Put the money in the savings and chance it, or possibly pay too much money for something you never use and have bad experiences with. I for one will go with the warranty via Porsche dealer, but its up to each individual to decide.

I'd really like to get the extended warranty sold by Porsche, if I can. They seem to sell the Easycare plan.
The problem is that I am getting conflicting information from dealers. One told me that it can't be sold unless the car is under warranty already, and another told me that it's just by miles.
Both are now saying I can get the warranty, but I am doubting it's true.
Has anyone bought an Easycare warranty from the Porsche dealership after the car was out of warranty?
