boxster S is more fun than 997 TT
Im not trying to start a war here. obvious everyone is entitled his own opinion but after driving both the S and the TT i feel that the S is much more fun to drive. Sure the TT is ALOT faster. the turbo really hit it hard at 4k, however it doesnt handle that well. the S is alot more engaging especially on twist on turns around the mountain roads.
I ve always dreamed about owning a TT however after the test drive i felt so disconnected with the car. Sure its double the price but its not worth it imo.
How many of you have Turboed their boxster? Is it a wise idea to get the base 987 and turbo it which would equal to over 400hp, which is comparible with the TT.
I ve also been looking at NSX. but the 02+ cost more than 50k. I could get a 30k boxster S with 13k turbo =43k monster with over 400hp. Am i making sense?

I've a friend that traded in his '08 C2S for an '08 TT, kept it for 2 weeks, then traded it for another '08 C2S. Said the same thing...the TT felt large and heavy....and not worth the extra money for the "performance" over the C2S.

ok went to see the nsx, didnt work out well. It was beat up pretty badly. the interior is wrecked. Most importantly, i didnt fit inside even though im not fat by any standard. my head was touching the roof.
i gotta drive the GTR before i make any decision. so far no one has allowed me to drive one yet.

I have a Cayman S, but have also owned a 997S and a couple of ZO6s, so I understand you the power difference you describe. Obviously, all this stuff depends on personal preference, tempered (or not) by budget constraints. My only advice is, go with a car that has sufficient power for you from the factory. I know, mods can dramatically increase power, and many folks seem to take that route and have no problems. That has not been my experience. I would be inclined to choose a car with satisfactory power, even if the handling needed help (within reason). After-market suspension work has, at least in my experience, worked out pretty well. Warrany issues aside, major engine mods tend to carry much greater risk. This is the very crux of my current dilemma, as I want more power, but, the handling of Cayman S is nearly perfect for me.

I just sold my GT3RS and i really want to ty the Caymen S but i just dont think i has enough power to keep me in the car for long. The RS was excellent in all area's. other than the value on that thing was dropping like a rock so i got out of it. I agree with the motor mods, been down that road. The GT-R sounds like a fun car, i just think it will be to easy to drive fast. A true sports car should not be easy to drive fast. Can't see getting the Boxster
Regarding vdavie, interesting, if I owned a car with dropping price, I would keep it longer to even out the cost of ownership, not to sell it when the price drop were deep.
Coincidently, I got two friends having trouble with their cars in the past month, both with engine mods. I echo the saying above that touching the engine isn't wise.
The comparison between Boxster S and 997TT has many factors: mid vs rear engines, naturally-aspired vs turbo engines, convertible vs. coupe, power differences etc. Try to compare GT3 with TT and see how you like naturally-aspired engines with not too different power/weight ratio. Try Cayman S vs. Boxster S too. And for the sake of trying, try Carrera S vs. Cayman S as well
After all these, you will know which factors affect your preference.

I guess he wants a more "raw" driving experience, without too much machine intervention, which I agree to some degree. However, try disengage the power steering of the car for a week and see what his opinion is then ;-)
I love threads like this. I agree 100% and have owned a 996TT and while an amazing car, nothing I would just want to take out for a drive, unless I was planning to set new land speed records...truly amazing cars but numb, heavy and great daily drivers than pure sports car imo.
