Hardwiring V1

I know this has probably been covered millions of times, but I was looking to hardwire my V1 tonight, and was wondering if anyone with a 987.1 Boxster has done this yet. Is there a certain wire I can use in the fuse box without having to splice a wire or any other easier way to hardwire the V1? Again, sorry if this has been covered tons of times before, but any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Use one of these. No splicing necessary. I used these in my 987 for ipod integration. http://www.amazon.com/Littelfuse-FHA.../dp/B0002BGELQ

Not sure if about the specific wire that's part of the car - I'm sure any wire will give you the 12v, but you need to figure out which one is constant and which is switched. You probably don't want that anyways, since that approach means you're cutting into a wire in the factory wiring harness.

If you have a spade, you can just wire the V1 hardware adapter to the fuse box directly. Here are two fuse locations I use which will power-on when key is turn to the on position. If I decide to remove the v1, I just unplug this spade, pull the wires and it's done.

There various versions of these at any auto parts store - they're called fuse taps. Here's the way I did it (for Valentine, Garmin and Dension):

I place the concealed display in front of the gauges. It's in the line of sight of the road and gauges. Only downside is glare from sun when the top is down.

Which of these is constant and which only switch on with the ignition?

If you have a 987, check my picture above... The two I used should be open for use and switched.

So if I have this correct, you just placed a single spade on one side (switched) and just used an inline fuse? Thx

That's what I did. The V1 inline wire should have a fuse built-in (IIRC - the white tube looking thing).
