Sticker Price

Just wondering if dealerships typically charge sticker price on a Cayman? The dealer i've been working with shot me a price this past saturday and it was basically sticker price minus my trade. and he didnt give me a good trade in price either.

Just wondering. I am having a hard time trying to find the Cayman that i want. Do dealers typically knock off 5%? 10% Nothing. Louisville just had a 2010 Aqua Blue Cayman with $60,500 on the sticker that they sold for $49,990.

My dealer checked their locator, there are no 2010 or 2011 new ruby red Cayman cars out there. He couldnt find any 2010 Aqua Blue Cayman's either. Apparently there are a few 2011 Aqua Blue ones left.

Its not the R model, nor is it the S model. Just the base Cayman, thats certainly fine with me. He found one (i found it, actually) with about $59,400 on the sticker and he wanted $59,400 for it. and he low-balled me on the trade.

I emailed them an offer today, about $6,800 less than what they shot me saturday at their dealership. so far, i've heard nothing back.

I would have worked the deal on the purchase first, then brought the trade in after you were happy with the new car's price. If it is on their lot, you should be able to get a discount. 2011, you should be able to get a discount.

Well, here's a little more info.

This car is about 800 miles away. its not actually on their lot. but like i said, Louisville just sold a 2010 by knocking $11,000 off the sticker. I didnt really expect that much off this 2011, but i never dreamed they would want sticker price. and also lowball me on my trade.

I think the salesman, sales manager, and for sure myself were a little disgruntled when i walked out of the dealership this past saturday. I want to deal with this dealership because they are certainly the closest dealer to me.

They wanted $34,800 plus the trade and i offered them $28,000 in an email today. i am certain they wont take that, so can anybody offer some advice for my next move? I figure they have dealer discounts, end of the month quota bonuses, holdbacks, mfgr to dealer incentives, etc, and along with making at least $4,000 of my trade i certainly think $28,000 is not too far off.

If I were you I'd take my trade-in to a few places like Carmax and get buy bids, that way you'll have a better idea what your trade is really worth. I checked with a number of dealers in my state before I ordered my '12 Cayman S, the offers were from MSRP to about 5% off. It depends a lot on how may allocations a dealer has, if they only get a few cars a year, they may be less likely to discount. You may have to travel to get the best deal.

Dealers typically don't knock anything off of MSRP even when threatened with a gun.

The only time I've found they'll drop the price is when they have a huge oversupply of leftover cars. For instance in April of 2009 I bought a new 2008 Cayman S for $50.6K discounted from $62.6K and dealer gave me a over book trade-in allowance for my trade-in.

But this year at various times when I looked for Cayman S stock was in very short supply. Generally in these situations dealers do not discount.

Sincerely,

Macster.

I have noticed if you do not have a relationship with your local dealer and there is only on deanship within miles MSRP is typically the case. I am in Virginia and within a 50 mile radius I think there is 5 porsche dealerships. I Have bought two Porsches within a year and got a discount on both and they were custom orders, 2010 Cayman and 2011 V6 Cayenne. I purchased from Porsche of Silver Springs in Maryland, Casey was my sales guy. Maybe try expanding your search. There are deals out there you just have to look and be patient. I traded in a car with my last Porsche purchase and got a appraisal from Carmax and the dealership matched Carmax's number.

best of luck with your search,

dave-t

The Louisville dealer offered me $4,000 off the sticker immediately. If they give me a really good price on my trade we might be doing some business.

I really dont understand the other dealership. I received a letter from them Tuesday saying they wanted to earn my business. I've emailed them twice this week, and just to make sure they have the info i faxed a copy of the email down to them. No response. Nothing. They have pretty much lost my business.

4k off would vary from good to very good, depending on the MSRP of the vehicle you're talking about.
Also depends on the MY and how long you plan on keeping the car. Current orders are for '12's, so if you buy an '11 from stock, you'll have an extra model years depreciation when you trade it in. No big deal if you lease or plan on keeping it for a long time, but makes a significant difference if trading it in a few years. For example, there's about a 3k difference in KBB trade value between an '06 and an '07 with the same miles. On a 60k vehicle, that's a 5% difference.

They can do better than 4%. 6% for sure, maybe 7% with some work! Like stated above, 2012 are being ordered. My 5cents;-) Just make sure you work out the details before you get there! That being said, my experience didn't go so well on a Euro delivery with them and when they told me they did me a favor, I bought my other 2 porsches elsewhere.
