Question Cayman R

Are Cayman R's totally dead? And if so, why? There are 87 on Autotrader right now.

What do you mean by "totally dead"?

My dealer told me that Cayman production has stopped for the year, so the availability is limited to what's already out there, and that new production won't start until next spring. I'm not clear on whether that will be the current or next generation of Cayman.

What I meant was that they apparently aren't selling, and why is that.

Are you referring to the Cayman in general, or Cayman R specifically?

My local dealer can't seem to keep the Cayman and Boxster in stock, so they seem to be selling OK.

If the Cayman generally isn't selling well, two possible reasons I can think of are (a) costs more than the Boxster without the benefits of a convertible and (b) not as iconic and desired as the 911.

JMHO.....the Cayman 'R' is in sort of a 'No Man's Land', price wise and model wise??? No? Too high and too close to the 911 and too high for it's competition? And, like someone already said here...too high for being a no top down car like it's sister the Boxster? It is a bada$$ car to be sure...just less appealing to a wide audience. Kinda reminds me of the BMW X6M S.U.V. Great car...not much demand.

Just say'n.

I don't know if I am an outlier but I can't stand convertible no matter what kind of price I pay for. I am not a convertible person. Cayman over Boxster anyday.

Also, not everyone is too crazy about base model 911 with 0 option. I'd definitely opt for cayman R over base model 911 with 0 option.

I am not a fan of convertibles either, I have really bad year round allergies. I can't remember the last time I drove with my windows down, if I do I pay for it later that night because I get a really bad sinus headache.

I have a 911S cab and I think it's awesome. It's like having two cars in one, and the performance reduction compared to the coupe is small.
