What should i do with my boxster spyder!FABSPEED????

Hi Guys,

I'm a new member of this forum. I have few question, hope your guys can help me to find an answer.

I have a 2011 Porsche Boxster Spyder. Thinking of modified my car. Below are my 2 option:

1. ECU upgrade, Fabspeed V-Flow intake system, Fabspeed Long Tube Race Headers and replace the Secondary cat to 100 or 200 cell cat.

2. ECU upgrade, Fabspeed V-Flow intake system, Fabspeed headers with SPORT CAT and Modified the standard secondary cat.

Which way will be more cost effective? Base on what the shop told me in Australia, both will pretty much cost the same.

Hope your Guys can help me to find an answer.

If you are going with new headers go catless, it is my understanding the performance gains with sport cats are not worth the money. After putting on catless headers you will probably need a flash so you do not throw any codes. On planet9 forum there has been discussions about were the 10hp gain is on the Cayman R vs the S. I believe but am not sure it is the same with the Spyder and Boxster S, there may not be two sets of cats on the exhaust and that is where the 10hp is gotten.

Mods, to me, it depends completely on what you're trying to obtain. What is it you are looking for?

Thanks Guys. Yes Australia are pretty strict on Emissions.

I'm still confuse and don't know what to do! I have no experience with modified car before hope your guys can help me. Feel like I been cheated by the workshop. What we have agree from the start is ECU Upgrade, Fabspeed Headers with Sport cat, Fabspeed V-Flow Air intake and Remove and modify the secondary cat.

After i paid half on my deposit now the workshop turn around and said plan has change (without letting me know). This is the plan = ECU Upgrade, Fabspeed Header long tube without sport cat, Fabspeed V-Flow Air Intake and High Flow cat 200 cell on secondary cat.

Which I feel been cheated and treat me like STUP1D MAN. The reason i said that is Fabspeed header with Sport cat it cost $2795 compare to the Fabspeed Long tube race header is different by $1000. Plus he already charge me $550 for Remove and modify the secondary cat. Which is total of $1550 from the price i paid for my first agreement with him.

So i made a phone call to him and ask since there is a price gap different from what we have agree which mean i could pay less for the job to be done. Guess what he reply? No there is not price in different because I have to install a pair of high flow cat 200 cell on the secondary cat. Which make sense, but when i ask him what type of brand you are using for my secondary cat, then he reply cant tell you which brand Im going to install in your car. WHAT....WHAT.......WHAT????? I personally not going to believe a pair of high flow secondary cat + Labor cost is going to Cost $1550???

Guys really need your help. Please give me some advise.

Thanks A lot!!!

I wouldnt waste my time with any of that to be honest. The few HP that it will give you i doubt you will notice. Why not do a Fabspeed Race Exhaust (it saves weight!) for a nice sound and just enjoy the car at the power level it is. Unless you do a turbo kit (TPC!) its not worth it on a car like that......

I have to say that I'm confused as to why you're rushing to make changes just for change sake. Also, why you're paying for them before the work is done. For the numbers you are quoting, you could be getting a turbo (not that I would). I would slow down and make any modifications in a planned, thoughtful direction or you will just be throwing money at a car that doesn't really need anything but a driver.

Sways and links and a harness bar, tires, brake pads and fluids would be my 1st group of mods... I'd also try and get an alcantara wrapped steering wheel and shifter of I could... Love that feel

None of the above IMNSHO. The Spyder was designed to be taken to the track and flogged "as delivered". A spare set of track wheels/tires might be nice though.

I'll echo this. There's no need to make changes ... Just because. What are your plans for the car?

This is a street car we are talking about and he does still need to meet emissions regs. While it is certainly possible to improve on Porsche engineering, aftermarket solutions have ummmm... frequently fallen short of expectations. In my experience on a modern N/A car, the stock motor often outperforms the bolt-on modded motor around a track unless it involves increased displacement or F/I. All foam, no beer. Money much better spent on tires. YMMV

I just took delivery of a Spyder and must say it is the most fun Porsche I have ever owned. Not sure I would change a thing at this point. Time will tell.
