New Boxster, Old Cayman Side-By-Side
Parked next to a new Boxster this morning and took some pics. Dont' be thrown off by the size of the two cars. They're almost equal, the new 981 looks way bigger in pics, but it's the angle. It really does make the 987 look older when the two are side by side.

Interesting. Saw Boxster Spyder and new Boxster S comparo in pics on another site. I will say here what I did there.............new 991 and 981 are getting bigger and losing something of classic look I like. I specifically traded my 08 CS on a 2012 Cayman R because I did not like the direction the new ones were taking.......losing the 550 or Dino front look which I have always admired. Just my personal opinion. It does not diminish their attractiveness..........very nice style, just not my preference when I had the choice.

I understand what you’re saying. When you look at the car at the angle in this pic.

The front part of the bumper almost looks like an S2000 front end... not saying it looks bad, just looses that Dino look a bit.

Sorry to disagree, but Porsche has been the one company that has been able to make each iteration look better then the one before. 981s and 987s were instantaneously dated by their replacements, and as a purchaser of a new 981, I expect the next version to date mine someday. The angle of your photos don't do the car justice. Mapping it to an S2000 is almost as ridiculous as those that compare the 981 to the MR2
Hmmm, I looked and looked and looked and still don't see the similar except for the fact they are both red.
It’s the horizontal part of the front bumper with the curved ends. When I saw the front end (not above the grille) it’s the first thing I thought of.
And since we’re discussing bumpers, I think the back end looks like a SC430 kinda.
I’m in the body shop business and tend to look at corners and edges more. But hey, it’s just an opinion... everyone’s got one.

I actually think the 981 is gorgeous.. I do think the 987 spyder/caymanR will be more raw and sought after in a few years... But I'd be lying if I said I didn't want the 981 interior ... Or that I'd take the 981 exterior over any 987 barring my spyders... If I wasnt trying to make my car a track rat, I would have waited for the 981..
Honestly, there is no wrong answer.. It's win-win

The design of the 981 makes it looks bigger. It's wider in the front, but that is actually exaggerated in pictures such as the ones above, since people tend to use a short focal length when taking pictures of cars... especially with their mobile phone cameras!
When I posted pics of my car in the other thread, I used my Nikon D90 and a neutral focal length that is close to the human eye. Compare the two pics below and you'll see the difference.
It's also interesting to see the rear of both cars above: The 981 is much higher in the rear, which gives the car a much more aggressive stance. This is even more evident if you compare with a 987 Boxster. I like this new look a lot!
What is not very obvious in pictures are the sharp edges running along the inside of the front and rear fenders. They look much more pronounced in real life and also adds to the "aggressive" look of the car. Must be the first time even that Porsche added sharp edges to the bodywork!
Off topic: That McLaren look amazing! Now I just need to get the money for that one too... LOL

Great pictures, all of them.
The second picture of the OP really shows how they have extended the wheel base by moving the axles closer to the ends of the car.
As an aside, I absolutely love the new Boxter but I am not really thrilled with the spy shots of the new Cayman. The lines just don’t seem to work as well. I am interested to see what it looks like in person.
