I'm actually in the process of getting the PCM 3.0 retrofit kit installed at the dealership to replace the CDR 30 in my 09 Boxster.

I got the kit from Suncoast and the official installation documentation says that the PCM 3.0 kit will work with 2009 and beyond Porsches that have either the Sound Package Plus (code 490) and Bose package (code 680).

I have the 490 package and the dealership has had my car for a good two days now and they've run into a problem where there is no sound coming out from the PCM unit. I spoke with the dealership's foreman today and he said there's some optical connection that connects the PCM 3.0 to the ASK amplifier (that comes with the Sound Package Plus). But there isn't an optical connector on the ASK Amp.

Does anyone hear know what's going on and what the problem may be ?

thanks

I just attempted to go through this same process and my dealership basically told me it would be easier to buy a new car!!!!

Strangely they also told me I could get PCM 3.0 with Nav, bluetooth, but NO Satellite Radio!?!?!?!

Then they were kind enough to quote me ~$7000 installed.

And they also said that was without Bose. That would be an extra $3000.

They ultimately suggested a Kenwood head and full aftermarket options. This was a high volume Porsche dealer.

KK, Porsche stopped making the SAT radio kit for the PCM 3.0 retrofit. I was told at one point they did sell it. I think you can go aftermarket for that. I'm just going to use my iPhone to listen to XM.

7000 grand is actually about right. I spent about 4500 on parts and 1400 on labor so that's 6000 (so far).

Personally I'm not an aftermarket kinda guy. I'd like to keep the car OEM for the most part. It's strange how a Porsche dealership would suggest aftermarket. And of course, it'd be easier to buy a new car....

I'll keep u posted on my progress. They're still having issue with the ASK amp. I hope to get my car back today although they gave me a 2013 Panamera as a loaner (not too shabby).

Just got a call from my dealer. Everything is working ! Apparently there was a step that needed to be taken that wasn't on the instruction sheet - something with a harness.

I'll be picking up in the morning to test everything out.

Picked up my car this morning. Everything working and looking great.

Had the PCM 3.0 navigation, bluetooth, Universal Audio Interface, Steering Wheel control installed. Very similar to the set up on the 2013 Panamera loaner that I got (think the 2013 uses PCM 3.1).

Total cost (parts and labor) is approx $6500 ($5100 parts and $1400 labor). Is it worth it ? It's definitely nice but it is a lot of money. I guess it must be worthwhile to me since I had it done....

If anyone has any questions on this, let me know.

I totally agree...... Very glad it's worked out for you. The CDR-30 is just so basic. I may just install Tubi Exhaust and drown it out completely
