How difficult and expensive is it to add A/C to a Cayman R or Boxster Spyder
Now that my son is about to turn two, I'm thinking about buying another Porsche sports car to play with. Probably used and probably a semi-daily driver.
I really like both the Cayman R and the Boxster Spyder but even living here in S. CA I don't think I could own either without A/C... not only for me, but frankly for my co-pilot/wife.
I've found some very nice examples for sale but a few were ordered without the climate control. Does anyone know how difficult that retrofit would be and ballpark how much it should cost at say a dealer (knowing full well a good indy shop would be a lot cheaper)?

The question is asked frequently enough but the process is prohibitively expensive. Buy the car you like with the options you want or sell the one you have and buy one set up the way you want. If you become really enthralled with the idea, call your dealer and ask them... while you're sitting of course.
As an option from the factory, I believe dual zone air is about $1,800. I think you start well north of there for a retrofit for parts and labor. Totally uninformed but I would hazard a guess of $3,000-$5,000 range.
Very expensive. I think the 4-5k estimate might even be a bit low. Compressor, belt, climate control head, condensers, refrigerant, coding, and installation would probably be in the 7-8K range if I had to guess.
A/C Delete option is exceptionally rare. I'd guess maybe 1-2 US cars had this spec.
A car without Automatic climate control is not A/C Delete. They are two totally different things.
Please re-do your homework and let us know what you find.
I've seen perhaps 5 ebay listings over time without A/C as option. Doesn't seem that rare to me. (yes all priced pretty low too)

Yeah, multiple people have posted on other sites about their Spyders without AC or Spyders that they know of that doesn't have AC. I don't think it's extremely rare.
BTW... GT3 RS 4.0... what a kick *** car!!

Are you sure you understand the specs you are looking at?
