Cayman Colors

I've just switched my position on the Charlotte local dealership's 2006 allocation from a Carerra 4S to a Cayman. I owned an NSX in the mid-90's and loved the feel of a mid-engine car. Am confident that we'll be able to trick the horsepower up into the 310 range in the aftermarket.

Question #1 is - what colors and options to choose? Around here, 50% of the Porsches are silver or slate gray. What other color combinations do you folks suggest that don't look like middle-age crazy. At 62, I prefer a mean and elegant look to in-your-face on colors, so no oranges for me.

Being in the south, I would prefer to get a lighter interior, and I am certain to have all the windows tinted, so that will effect color selection.

Question #2 - I am told that the options list for Cayman will be straightforward, following the line of Boxster. My present list would include: 19 inch wheels, Sport Chrono, PASM, Nav System, Xenon, Short Shifter, Sport Seats, Bose. What else do you suggest as essential - like for instance a rear window wiper, etc? Thanks.

I would say get the atlas gray, it is a beautiful color.

second chocie would be basalt blk with natural interior.

these will be subtle and nice looking and not in ur face.

if i had to do it, i would do white with terracota and dark wheels with polished lips.

email me at LILRAJA2002@YAHOO.COM and i can send you some pix. I go through this 50 times a day. I think i have a disease with trying to figure out every option and color combo for random cars that are beyond my reach. the joy of being single and free....

I am planning on buying a Cayman S. My top two choices for colors are Atlas Grey or Lapis Blue. I am thinking about the best interior. I do not like grey, so that is out. Black should work well with either. I will also not get beige, but what about black/beige two tone with the Lapis?

I would appreciate any opinions on the best interior colors with Lapis and Atlas, including anticipation of the new two-tone offerings (black/beige, black/terracotta, existing black/grey)

Thanks

mark,
I was in toronto and saw a boxster in atlas gray and I must tell you the color is amazing. I had to circle the car. Under direct sunglight the car has such a nice tone that you must see to appreciate. i would chose that over lapis blue anyday. Interior i would def. go with black/terracotta. That would be the ultimate choice in color IMHO.
go for it, u will not regret it.

I would love black terracotta. So, based on your opinion of Atlas, you think that combination would work well together? Thanks for the input. I think that would be a sweet car.

Thanks guys for your thoughts. I have been leaning towards the Atlas Grey with natural leather interior, but have been told that you can't get adaptive sports seats if you choose natural. I will take a harder look at the terracotta, grey and tan (or whatever they call it) as alternatives.

Where can I find out about two-tone interiors? Neither my local dealer nor the NA Porsche website ("Build your Porsche") mention this option.

The key design feature of the Cayman , to me, is the 550 Spyder-like " humped " fenders as viewed from directly behind, created by the depression between the hatch and the fenders . A darker color will hide that . I think GT Silver with the new two tone interiors in blk/ terrarcotta or black/grey would look classy, classic , modern AND sporty ! The lighter color will " widen" the butt as it were . Metallics enhance curves , while bright , non metallic colors like white , yellow or red " flatten " them. The Cayman is all about the curves .

Cayman's 550 Spyder - inspired fender haunches

I am also on the wait list. I am having "Paint to Sample" done on my Cayman S. It will be the color of my race car (great color). Known as Royal blue (back in the 60's-80's) was a special order color from Porsche. Now it is know as Arrow Blue. This will delay my order a bit.... But I will have a car created for me
I am going for sport seats (heated), PASM, and Bose. Thats it. I do not care for the 19inch wheels and like the looks of the 18 inch Carrera GT clone stock wheels. Plus- I hear the ride is rough on the 19's on the new boxster.
You realy want that sport chrono? I think it is so out of place on that dash. It's not my cup of tea.
Here is my race car.... the color on a Cayman S will be sweet! I can't wait!

Thanks again to everyone. I started with the idea of Atlas Grey, and am now leaning toward a simple grey interior. Raja has made a good observation that this will permit flexibility if I want to later upgrade the interior with carbon, etc. That said, MKW's argument that lighter colors show off the curves is convincing. I have time to study this further, and will continue to agonize over it.

As for the options, I will load this puppy up. Does anyone have further insight into Plavan's comment about 19-inch wheels giving a rougher ride?

You guys are great. Thanks for the input.

I think that light grey (Graphite Grey) interiors are boring I would suggest Stone Grey

After looking at the back end of the cayman I kind of want to see some stripes coming off the tail lights like this:
