question for cayman owners

yes i'm new so hi

now that we got that out of the way... on to the question:

is there anything you wish you got after you purchased or was there a "must have " while you were shopping? if so, what was it for you?

i'm debating jumping from the bmw ship soon and want to start getting more familiar and it might be a fun thread.

Im pretty much in the same boat. New to the forums (though reading for a while), BMW owner and within the next year I'm looking to get a Cayman 09 or newer.

For ME this is the list:
MUST be manual
MUST have heated seats
Black, White, or Yellow ... maybe silver
Black guts ... maybe the dark brown but not the tan or grey

It depends if you are talking about preowned or new ordering. If you are going pre-owned then it will help to make a list of must haves vs. things you might consider dropping if you find a car in really good condition, or miles, or price etc... If new then it will be easier to find things you really want but then you have budget considerations. For me I stuck to my budget tho a small part of me wishes I had spend just a tad more to go full leather, and or maybe burmester sound tho I can do aftermarket stuff to address that.

My list was:

Manual 6MT
PSM
PASM
PSE
Heated AND Ventilated Seats

I really wanted Red but ordering new that wasn't an issue...

In hindsight should have gotten:
- Light Design Package..only way to get auto dim rear view mirror...doh. Not that much $
- Full leather vs. Partial leather
- Upgraded sound from Bose... this is a maybe

6MT vs PDK almost takes on religious fervor....beware. For me, my first to Caymans (S and then an R) were 6MT. My 981 is PDK. For my DD I actually find the PDK more to my liking.

Don't buy transmission or car based on resale. Buy it for what YOU want.

That said PDK might be easier but there will always be MT buyers.

Long time bimmer enthusiast..

Greetings,
As a long time bimmer enthusiast I jumped the boat about 6 months ago. I'm not too much of a fan of where BMW is going these days. I traded in my brand new f30 msport with every available option. I built this car and put over $4 grand worth of performance accessories on it and after 11 months still wasn't satisfied. I had been reading about the cayman last year and kept wanting to drive one. I opted for a base cayman with lighting pkg, 6mt, heated seats, no nav and no leather upgrade. I'm totally fine with the non leather upgrade but do wish I had opted for the better sound system maybe even nav. I do have the upgraded exhaust and enjoy that. I purchased with the base 18's and ordered the 20" carrera classics a month later. I'm still very happy with the cayman and it has been trouble free the first 10,000 miles as that is how many miles I have put on it from day 1. I have consistently had issues with the last 3 BMW's I've bought new.

IMHO you have picked well. Those are the exact options I have on my 12 Cayman and have ordered on my 15 CaymanS. My first option is the 14 way seats and all the memory functions that go with them, particularly important if you are tall. After all if you are not comfortable you won't be happy with the car.
