981 Porsche Boxster S Fire

Hi everyone, I had my engine recently replaced at a local dealership under warranty. Originally the issues started with a bad cat and a resonators. As the dealership started taring the car apart, slowly the engine seized and they decided they have to put a new one in. Month goes by nothing. Two months go by and nothing. A friend of mine familiar with the dealership eventually told me that the first engine shipped upside-down and they had to reorder the engine. So now 2 months of not having my Boxster I am waiting for a second engine and the dealership has not notified me of any of this. Now finally, the car is finished when the second engine comes in 3 months after the initial problems started happening. I kid you not, 10 mins after I left the dealership and they told me it was road worthy, the car caught on fire and the whole rear right side burnt to a crisp. The car has been declared totaled. I am currently barely able to drive reliving that moment let alone sleep. I am not sure how to proceed. Should I go after the dealership? What should be my expectations from them? I have spoken to several lawyers and everyone is telling me something different and I am not sure what is the best course of action. PCNA essentially said this is out of their hands since it seems like a dealership issue. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Wow, what a terrible experience. Sorry to hear that.

It' seems pretty obvious there must have been a defective rebuild/replacement by the dealer, resulting in some sort of fire. Sounds like that dealership sucks.

Glad you weren't hurt and it sure sounds like you're in for a fun insurance claim and possible lawsuit.

With that said, are you being serious with this statement? "I am currently barely able to drive reliving that moment let alone sleep."

Or are you just practicing your civil testimony?

What a crappy experience but c'mon...it's a car and stupid stuff sometimes happens. You weren't hurt. Why are you barely able to drive or sleep?

I'd be pissed as hell over the experience and hassle but losing sleep or losing basic ability to function due to emotional trauma? The car can and likely will be replaced. You'll possibly be further compensated. It'll work out.

Good luck with it all.

That's for the lawyer to help you determine.

Yeah, what a crappy experience. Again, good luck with it all Robert. Please post updates or the outcome!

What advice does your insurance company have? Do not file a claim with your car insurance or home owners insurance just ask. This can't the be the first time the company has had this come up.

You can also *consult* with an attorney who specializes in these types of cases and get his input as to how you might proceed.

Not saying you need to lawyer up. The damage amount is relatively small and you don't want to split it with the lawyer even if you found one who would take the case.

If you see an attorney be sure you bring with you the paperwork of all the repairs to the car leading up to this and the paper work of the last and fatal engine installation.

Also, have you spoken to the dealer GM? Dealerships carry insurance for this although the cost will probably be below the deductible.
