986S or 3.4L 986 for Track use?
986S or 3.4L 986 for Track use?
I am looking at a track-only DE car. I have driven a 2.5L Boxster on track years ago. This is going to be for fun at the track only (DE) not racing. I have found a 2002 986S triple black with full aero-kit and sports seats (w/42k miles) for $27.5K. Also a very well done '97 986 3.4L FVD conversion with GT3 seats, suspension, bling wheels can be had for the same price. What do you guys think. I am coming from tracking a modded 996TT.
thanks.
thanks.

Still for sale.Your car is absolutely stunning. Alot of bling in that car! I am looking for a track mule. Something I can thrash around in and abuse. The fact that you are cross-country doesn't help matters! I will contact you again, I am still thinking about it!
How important is power to you? If not that important I would get a 97,98 or 99 and set it up like a Spec Boxster but use goodies like Motons, wide rims and tires, GT3 suspension parts and lots of carbon fiber. Strip the beast and add electronic goodies (camera, data acq, sensors). Talk to Todd (Teutonictrio) about it.

I have talked(email) to Todd from the time(way back) he had a 986 and planned to do a TwinTurbo on it. I have tracked a Boxster 2.5L years ago. Power is important, I am stepping down from a 500HP TT!
Bro, I have emailed you too, when you were selling your car!
Thanks for the input.

Is this a good price?
2002 Boxster S with 44K triple Black, with the only major options being sports seats and full aero kit. No PSM.
For $27.5K.

WoW I do not agree with Dave for once!
I say go with the 97 since the 97 was the first year and a little lighter then the 02. Also my theory is if you are going to do it do it right the first time. The 3.4 in the 97 will be more then enough power to lap many higher HP cars on the track.

Josh,
I'm shocked that you would go against the Cayman Spyder Brotherhood!!
Can we agree to disagree?
As I understand it, the 3.4L conversion is not that much more umph than the 3.2L in the later model S. Besides, you'd get a 6-speed vs. a 5-speed, bigger brakes, 5 years newer, and lots of chicks (because of the aero kit).
Buy the '02. Put the power kit into it.

you are right about the 6 speed but you could also power kit the 3.4..either way it would be a fun car
