The 918 was originally like 850k.
But now they are going for like 1.4 million or something
Could any old Joe just buy an 918 back in 2015? Or was it only available to certain people?

They struggled selling the last few. My friend was any old Joe, never bought a Porsche before. He got one.

My local Porsche dealership listed a CGT at 450K a few years ago. I said to myself, good luck selling that. It was sold in a few days, after Paul Walker crashed his, the value skyrocketed. I don't think you can call anyone who is in the market for a 918 an avg Joe. lol. Avg Joe's don't go looking for million dollar cars to buy.

Anyone could buy a 918 as long as you could put 200K down as a deposit. After that, build it and wait.....they didnt have a problem selling the 918's as there were 300 people who were on standby in case a buyer backed out.

Your 918 is gorgeous.
I will clarify my "any old Joe". I meant you didn't have to "know" someone and it certainly wasn't like trying to go buy now currently a GT at MSRP. MY friend yes has more money than the average Joe but he had multiple places wanting him to buy the 918 from them and certainly did not have folks waiting. Ybe for him it was just timing. The dealers were also trying to talk him into putting less down and just lease the car with minimal down.
So yes an average Joe with some extra cash could get one relative to someone trying to get a GT car that seems like you need connections or have bought multiple Porsches

I know someone who flipped one. He ordered one as soon as they were taking orders and a few years later he got one of the last ones I believe. He kept it for a little bit and sold it for a 600k profit.

Just as the 300k CGT, the 918 will sell for less eventually. These things are always cyclical. My concern for the high price on these cars is that we are quite overdue for some sort of a major market correction....

I just figured out the one my friend flipped was the acid green 918 the youtuber Salomondrin owned for a while. He has now sold it. It is easy to track because it is 1 of 2 acid green cars and the only one in the US.

there are lots of cars that are going to appreciate like crazy. the "last of an era" aren't ending soon, they ended 3-5yrs ago.
every car made today will not age well. money to be made on new models is taking advantage of the "gotta have the new thing" crowd, which is viable business model.
the 18' mustang gt performance pack is the DEAL car right now. 5k off sticker and just came out....
