22s in snow ?

Hello all, fairly new to the forum. Will be taking delivery of an '08 Cayenne this weekend for the wifey. Planning on going with the OZ canyon in 22". Wanted to use the wheels all year round in the Chicago area, and was wondering if that is a safe bet ? Tire rack shows 2 tire types available and calls them all seasons... Pirelli Scorpion or the Yokohama Paradas in 285/35.. is either tire type better than the other and is this a safe setup in terms of traction in light snow / ice ...

TIA ...

Hirsh.

I personally would not run 22's in the snow. It's like skiing, fat skis float.

For the winters, I change to 18's, as I do a lot of driving on the trans-canadian hwy. I have the Pirelli scorpion ice/snow (not the all seasons) and they work well. All seasons work ok in snow/ice, but not great. I grew up in Chicago and all-seasons will probably work fine. Not too much snow and when there is a storm, I remember those salt trucks coating the road!

Ummmm.......................................No!... ....... ......Although Pirelli is now making the Ice and Snow Scorpion in 21". Put snows on the stock rims and pimp 22"s for the spring, summer and fall.

keep the 22's for non-winter. they are something to look forward to as the days grow longer.

IMO it doesn't snow enough in the Chi to warrant dedicated snows for a SUV with AWD. We get less than 10 days of snow more than 5". We already had one so 9 more to go.

That being said, I have never driven an SUV with 22s in the snow. It might be like driving with summers. Why not compromise and get some sick 20's?

I drove mine with 22' canyons.. It really wasnt that bad... Just point down hill. If you see a tree turn and hit the gas.. for stopping hit the pasm button.. It really means Parachute Available (for) Sh!tty Moments...
Kidding.. You do tend to slide around a little.. I probably wouldn't recommend it but it can be done in chicago.

I live in Denver and run the 22's year round. It snowed 6 inches this weekend, and the car was a champ. The cayenne is not my mountain car, but for getting around the city the 22's are more fine.

Hey Hirsh,

Look at the CEC c856...I think it looks a little nicer than the OZ...and should be around the same price.

I would go with the Pirelli Scorpion...pretty good tire
