so i guess im retarded but i cant figure out where in the world the air box is on a 06 turbo cayenne... I changed the oil and out of habit i always check the air filter but.....

I looked in the owners manual, and it didnt help..

So where do i need to start looking, im assuming they are behind the front bumper?

 

Air filter(S),

Take off the plastic side covers by turning the little screws (?) but careful they can pop out and you loose them forever in the engine bay. Once they are off the sides look to the left and right sides and you will see the intake pipes coming out of them.

They are a little tricky to get off, you need to turn the black screws a half turn and pull them out. Two on each side, then unsnap the retaining springs holding the box in. jiggle and wrestle them off and you will see the filters.

Do a search on air filters here and you can probably find pictures with better descriptions.

I looked at it sunday and was like wth opend the owners manual and it was no help at all.

are you guys running just stock filter or is there a better one?

I started to open mine up tonight but apparently i need to buy some tools lol...

Ironically - you just need a flat head screw driver, your hands and guts to start tearing into a pricey vehicle.

 

i got the covers off and clips loose, but you cant open the box far enought to see if the filters are dirty. I dont have the correct size start bit that appears to take the top off.

 

I installed the EVO intakes on my s and it took about 20 min. The turbo airboxes are different from the S but none the less, I used the attached document as a guideline. If you read it carefully "all will be revealed". Good luck

 

I was on e bay and saw these, wornder if they do anything.... They dont look near as good as th other compays but they are a lot cheaper...

Difference is that these have no heat shields and are foam filters vs oil charged paper. After seeing how well the EVOs fit, I would be hard pressed to buy these. I also looked at those and spoke to a guy on ebay that bought from that vendor. He was happy with the sound and performance. Regardless, without the heat shields, the filters are parked right next to the hot exhaust manifolds . The EVO's sheilds are designed to trap the air coming from the cold air ducts that remain in place after you remove the stock air boxes. The sound alone is worth the $$ unless you like it quite under the hood.
