problematic cayenne thread

As I am in the market for a cayenne gts, I want to know what I'm getting myself into. I know WayneE has had a few problems with his. Lets compile a list of problems whether recall or warrantied. I hope to get alot of feed back on this

58k miles on mine, but I bought it CPO with 38k miles. TPMS system required 4 visits to get that fixed, coolant pipes, cam sensor, cam actuator solenoid, coils replaced, water leak/drains clogged (didn't really fix the leaking spot - I had to do it myself), wheel speed sensor, cardon shaft (driveshaft), thermostat replacement (stuck open), rear seats would not fold up - they had to unbolt them to free up the mechanisms, EVAP cannister mechanism failure, and a rear door that would not lock. All of these covered under warranty.

Those are the things I have taken it in for. Here's a list of things that are bad but I haven't bothered - headlight 'gaskets' deteriorated to almost nothing and rear hatch struts do not lift the gate all the way up without help. Things on the horizon: radio occasionally goes silent and you have to turn the key completely off and remove it to "fix" it. It's done that maybe 3 times since I've owned it. There is a door in the HVAC sticking that sometimes does not let the air flow where you want it to. Rough idle when starting it up hot for a few seconds. Oil leaking from the vent line under the y-pipe on the inlet.
I have until October this year for the CPO and you can bet I'll get as much fixed as I can find prior to then.

Air suspension failure. Repeated "Air Suspension Faults" due to air leak from the system or compressor. You can buy the VW rebuild kit to save a little cash, rather than replacing the entire unit if it is out of warranty.

Had a pin-sized hole in a cylinder head. $9k repair covered under warranty. Moral of this thread? Make sure you have a warranty!

Besides that, it's been great to me.

^^^^^^I agree 100%. It sounds like owning one of these w/o a warranty is like playing Russian Roulette. I'll definitely get a cpo and be sure to get rid of it before the warranty expires!

I think that applies to any of the expensive/complex German cars. Way too many unreliable systems that can go haywire and cost you a lot of money in diagnostics and repairs.

If you buy used, definitely go CPO.
