Know of any extra headliner pieces laying around to work on?

The only thing stopping me at the moment is the time to remove the center headliner, recover it and put it back all at one time.

Find me a center headliner to work with and I can probably crank out two. (do the spare, install, then do the one that comes out of my car and ship back to you).....and I could use a carbon fiber dash cover ya know!!

Nice work! it takes a lot of patience to do projects like this.

After you layed down the fabric, was it wetsanded? Then just brushed on a finishing glaze?

And I agree, I think the carbon is going to look great compared to the wood. Fwiw, I would suggest doing the trim pieces first before the center dash console. Only b/c I wouldnt want to go overboard w/ the cf wrap and I think once all those wood trim pieces are done in cf, it'll be plenty and look just at home.

Either way, keep the pics coming!

Btw, do you know of a cf fabric that comes in a 1x1 weave? The few places I've looked in the past only had a 2x2.

Goes like this:

1. Base layer first (the glue)
2. 3 hours to tack and then apply the CF
3. After CF is applied you can instantly wet the first coat.
4. 8-10 hours later, 80 grit dry sand to knock down the highspots
5. After initial dry sand, apply another coat of resin. 3-6 hours later, a light wetsand with 120 and then a third coat.
6. Let 3rd coat fully dry (took mine 8 hours) and then progressive wetsanding from 120 - 800 grit.
7. Buff with compound and then either wax or clear coat.

in my case, I clear coated with UV blocking clear - 3 coats with 1 1200 grit wetsand. Then a quick compound and finished it with some good carnuba.

Concerning 1X1 - My iphone case is made out of it and frankly, it looks like the weave is so tight it would scare me to use it on anything complicated. The 2X2 morphs around shapes pretty easily as its not so tight.

Carbonmods def a good place to get started, but I am sure I will start buying locally as I go.

You just need to be careful, read reviews and their ratings.
