SubPar sound Quality from XM
SubPar sound Quality from XM
Hey Everyone,
I wanted to see if anyone has noticed how XM on the Cayenne Base system sounds digitized in the high notes. I will bring this up with my dealer to see what they say.

11,
I cant hear what you are hearing, But the digitized sound is normal on sat radio(for most stations) . Some chan's have more bandwith (like 20 on 20) and will sound better(still not CD qual). Others have a very noticable digitized sounds due to lack of bandwith.
I would still get it checked out and make sure your system is in good order. Have you had sat radio before? is this more than your last system if so?

Base system. I would imagine that its the same xm module regardless what system you have.
I have XM as well at home & in my GTS. The sound on XM is very tinny, there's no depth in the music at all.
It's probably not the truck/soundsystem; it's just the (poor) quality of satellite radio. I find myself listening to the FM radio more. I can deal with commercials; but I can't deal with awful sound.... I'm sure in years to come the quality will improve; but chances are you'll need new equipment to take advantage of it.
At home I use it outdoors; so it's not as noticeable; but I could definitely tell you the difference if you played FM or XM radio in the car..

I have to concur.
I have the Bose Sound System. The sound is decent with the FM radio and the iPod, not great, but decent.
I have been trialing the XM satellite radio, deciding whether or not to spring for the monthly fee. However, I have been disappointed so far by the anemic XM satellite sound. There is a subjective lack of depth to the music. There seems to be a limited dynamic range, and missing bass in the music. The sound from the iPod and plebeian FM radio is much fuller. Obviously, the Burm is probably awesome. If money were no object.....
Therefore, I plan on not subscribing to the XM satellite system. It has been subjectively disappointing, IMO.

Thanks.
I think the base sound system is sufficient. Its better than the base system that came in my Cayman S, and better than my wife's ML 350. I didnt hear a big enough quality difference in the bose to make it worth the cost to me.
