Is it the secondary air pumps warming up the catalytic converters? They only come on when the engine is cold. Mine don't come on even with a cold engine in the evening for the commute back home, just in the morning.

You could remove the covers at the rear of the engine compartment and then start it up cold to see if you have an air leak or something. At least you may be able to determine which pump or side it is.

I don't know what the pumps cost. Hopefully you just have a leak or something. I'll try to remember to post a schematic tonight.

"Normal" is THE word of choice at the Porsche dealer nowadays. I think PNA instruct them to say that til we're fed up and accept it.

What engine do you have? I'm looking at some pics, but not much info is there.

This is the best pic of the area that you can access yourself easiest. I'd just suggest removing the covers/panels to access this stuff, leave the car overnight to cool down, and then pop the hood and start it cold to see if you can find anything. Not sure what else you can try.
