'08 GTS or '09 S

'08 GTS or '09 S

First time post, never owned a Porsche - I'm looking for some advice and insights, you guys seem to know what you're talking about!

I'm optimizing for a bit more utility, but don't want to give up the fun factor I've grown accustomed to with previous cars (Z06, E55, S4, XKR). I'm debating between 2 trucks:

* '08 GTS w/ 40K miles
* '09 S w/ 28K miles.

Both would be CPO so I'd effectively have 2 year coverage on the GTS and 3 year coverage on the S. I think both will end up being a similar price, around $47K. I'm sure that's maybe a couple g's higher than some would pay, but I enjoy the added protection the CPO affords. Anyway, I've driven both cars and absolutely LOVE the feel and sound of the GTS, but was very surprised that the '09 S seemed to handle and sprint in a pretty similar fashion, and maybe seemed a bit more solid feeling. Here's the plusses/minuses list for both cars. After all the driving and researching, I'm getting a bit confused!! That all said, I think an '09 GTS would be perfect, but the pricing is just out of my comfort zone!

'08 GTS Plusses:
* good acceleration, great sound
* seemed a bit flatter in cornering (not sure if it's because of air ride)?
* nice interior, including leather dash and great seats
* premium audio (well, it's Bose, I guess that's an upgrade
'08 GTS Minuses:
* no sun roof
* a year older with more miles
* no Bluetooth phone
* no iPod connectivity

'09 S Plusses:
* surprisingly good acceleration and surprisingly great exhaust note
* beautiful interior (caramel) with same upgraded leather dash and seats
* sun roof
* Bluetooth
* a year newer and only 28K miles
* upgraded Porsche 911 Turbo wheels

'09 S Minuses:
* maybe just a tiny tiny bit slower and less dramatic sounding
* no premium audio
* no iPod connectivity
* no Air suspension
* seems to have a tiny bit of roll in the corners under hard acceleration

is the difference in physical appearance not important to you. I went for a GTS over an S because I like the sportier appearance of the GTS over the S (lower stance, bigger grille like the turbo, quad exhaust).
did you drive the GTS in sports mode?


the GTS might have felt flatter because it has PDCC, which is an option that I will encourage you to look out for.

things that I insist to have should I have to do it all over again:
panoramic roof - cannot imagine driving a Cayenne without it, as it is so much fun to have

adjustable air suspension - diferrent ride height, different look, different feel

pdcc - makes driving much more fun

sports mode of the GTS - I only drive mine on sports mode, even to the grocery store 2 blocks down the road.

park assist - big plus.

Had the same choice three months ago and opted for the GTS. The S was fully loaded while the GTS was a low option vehicle, both cars with siilar milage and price. I personally believe the GTS will holds it's value better compared to the S and a Porsche GTS or RS is always something "special".

GTS all day! the Pasm with air suspension is a must have with the cayennes IMO. And the gts will not depreciate as much or as fast as the more common S will.

the air suspension is really handy up here where we get snow for 3 or 4 months.

the seats on the GTS are amazing; more comfortable and more adjustment options.

you could take out the secondary cats on the S for more sound - but that is non-switchable so no quiet time if wanted.

the wheels - cross cheque: unless that S is really really loaded, the GTS wheels are just about the best looking out there.

do they both have NAV?

there are a number of good options to IPOD & BT the 2008. check Eric the Plug guy

went with the S....

Against all of your recommendations, I pulled the trigger on the S, as it just seemed like the best option. Best color combination and completely upgraded interior that really makes it feel like the $77K car it is. Thanks for everyone's help. I'll still enjoy that great V8 and the amazing engine/exhaust note. Would have been nice to find a nice low mile '08 GTS with the right options that was certified, but that didn't happen.

My vote to the GTS. Reason? What others have said. The cost of a Porsche edition GTS can almost you a turbo. If sportiness is important to you, GTS is the right one for you.

Even I have a turbo, I admire something that comes standard on a GTS. The sporty alcantara seats (well, CTTS has them too), PDCC (option for cct), red seatbelt (option for cct)

Congrats on the new Cayenne. They are all great and it sounds like you picked the best car out of the specific two you were looking for. As far as quality options, newer year and less miles. I would pick the GTS, but I'm a manual, drive it around a turn faster then most do going straight, kind of guy.
