Hey all,
I've done a search on this issue but it seems like there's a lot of different fixes for this, which some work and some dont for people. I've completed the mod to remove the harness from the housing and place the harness directly into the headlight but it seems to still do it. Right before it gives me the error message it starts to blink a little, only the passenger side though. The driver side light has never had an issue. Should I just replace the bulbs? If so, what bulbs should i use? Thanks for the help!

 

so what you are saying is

one side blinks and then goes out
the other side has no issue

this leads me to think it's the ballast. you can swap left and right bulbs to confirm whether the issue is bulb or ballast.

 

Well it blinks, gives me the error message. But doesnt go out. Good idea on switching the bulbs. I'll try that first to isolate whether it's the bulb or ballast.

Sure write back when you have confirmed. I got $5 on ballast being the cause. Ballast go bad more often than you'd think. I even had both ballasts failed on my Lambo. I replaced the whole system with aftermarket bulbs and ballast

 

what ballast and bulbs do you recommend? Seems like a lot of brands out there. I'll swap them tonight and see.

 

It's actually a good iea to replace your bulbs anyway. HID bulbs lose color and intensity over time. I just replaced the HID bulbs in my 2002 C4S and it made a HUGE difference.

I'm looking forward to hearing how you correct this issue.

 

I am using Morimoto, which seems to be high quality. You can find the ballast and bulb as a kit for around $200. Don't bother buying the crappy aftermarket stuff from ebay.

If you decide to change the ballast, I would go with OEM ones. They are cheap enough.

 

Hey Dennis - did you replace with stock bulbs or aftermarket? also, do you have a lot of use or mileage on your 2002? just curious

 

I ended up going with stock bulbs.

I know lots of people like to change the color temperature, but I prefer to stick with the stock 4,300 K.

My car had over 100K miles on it when I changed them. I also keep them on during the day frequently when driving on curvy mountain roads, so they had lots of use.

 

Thanks, that makes sense. My old 996 had 40k mi with little night use so the color was like new. Agree that stock 4300k is a great color. Anything over 5000k will reduce the light output.
