Adding TPMS to cayenne?

If my 2005 CTT does not have tpms, what would I have to do to add it to the car? Besides the obvious addition of tpms modules into each tire, and would it require trip to dealer?
Thanks

I am not certain, however, most options are not available to add after the vehicle as been built. From what I understand, Porsche is one of the few manufacturers that will tailor a car's wiring harness to the specific options ordered. This includes running more/less wires, different gauge wires, and altered components. This allows them to be more efficient and save costs.

There are aftermarket options available (see tirerack), however, the install will not appear to be OEM.

I would have guessed that it may be a sw update, since these are wireless and transmit to collection point which relays info to central display.
Just wondering, since I would really like to have it on the car if possible, without having to go with an aftermarket solution.

My hope was to maybe ensure sw is updated for PCM on my CTT, then the option for tpms woud be visible. At that time, I would buy TPMS sensors and install into tires, and system would pick them up. Is this hope not realistic?

Without knowing for sure, I would think you would have an issue with the TPMS ECU that receives the information from the wheels, then relays it back to the cluster. FWIW, the TPMS sensor also monitors the spare tire (if equipped).

I would just call your local Porsche dealer and talk to the service manager to see if you can retrofit this option for sure.

Good luck.

Tried independent Porsche shop, trying to speak to someone technical there but the *****y receptionist is trying to get in the way...trying to talk technical but not making a good result. Trying to tell me she will find answers for me without knowing what questions I have...lol.
So I wonder is someone here can help with determining what equipment I may be missing for tpms, and what I would need, and then I could talk to shops about install prices or do myself if needed.
Thanks for help in advance.

The wiring for it doesn't exist. As mentioned - Porsche (who is NOT unique in this.. BMW has been doing it for decades) doesn't install wiring for anything not ordered with the car, with the exception of dealer aftersale add-ons (like the CD changer on later P!Gs). Even things like the telephone unit in the earlier trucks required major disassembly to add several modules and wiring harnesses, and antennas.

I suspose you could try to do this after the fact - but bet the cost is going to be in the many thousands of dollars range. There are quite acceptable aftermarket TPM system for less then $200 that don't require adding any wiring except power to the display (and a place to put it..) If I felt compelled to always know my tire pressure that's the route I'd go.

That is what I wanted to see, how feasible it wouold be to do one after the fact.

Suppose there is no wiring, if you assemble all the hardware, and laid the wiring down, is the software there in the MFD to take advantage of this, or would it have to be enabled via some sw update to the mfd? As of now, I do not see an option to view tpms settings, and just wonder how this plays into the whole deal.

If I went the aftermarket way, any suggestions for some units that do look decent and work well?

Thanks again.

It's not a "suppose" - there is no wiring. How are you going to get into the computer to enable it? You *might* be able to do that with the Duramatic Pro series diagnostics program, but that isn't an inexpensive program.

As far as aftermarket - I'm using one from the UK on my BMW bike, they also make car ones, and sell those in the US.. I'll have to see if I can track them down. Only downside - the display has an illuminated blue background, orange would be better (on the BMW also..)

Bigbuzuki is infamous around these parts
If you don't have option code I7K4 then you don't have the factory fitted TPMS.

You would have to install wheel well antennae, brackets for the antennae, associated wiring from each of the antennae to the control unit, a tpms control unit, wiring from the control unit to the network, wheel transducers, software programming of the system etc.

Not impossible but probably not cost effective as the bill would run into thousands of dollars.

Thanks for the input.

I would have no problem with getting the hardare, mounting, and wiring. The hardest part I see is the software to enable, which makes me kind of lose interest in this project.

Looks like I will see about after market solutions for TPMS.

Thanks a lot for all your feedback.

I would think the software would be the least of your problems. If you can get the hardware in I think the dealer can program it...

Mobiletron - that's the brand I'm using on my 2 wheeled BMW.. I believe they do sell the auto TPMS in the US..

Here is a link to one that would probably work: http://www.mobiletron.com.tw/b_eng_p...031&Pd_Id=3581

They seem to have two distributors in the US: http://www.mobiletron.com.tw/b_eng_c...us.asp?Cu_Id=4

These guys list is on their website: http://www.regitar.com/tpmslist.aspx?Category=4 Wheel - No price I can see.. but worth an email I think.
