help needed, buying 2008 cayenne

I'm looking to buy my wife a 2008 Cayenne and would like some help. I don't know much about these suvs. Are there any particular problems that would make you shy away? Anything specific to look for in a used one? Is a PPI necessary? I have one picked out already but have only seen it on lot (haven't driven it).
Stats: 2008 base model, dark grey ext., tan int., prefered package (sun roof etc.) with 37500 mi.
Any ideas on what a fair price should be if everything checks out? Thank you all for any help.

I think if you posted up a list of option packages this car has, people on here would be able to comment better. The sticker should be located in the trunk where the wheel is. It shows all the codes for each option package the car was ordered to have.

Something like this: CLICK HERE (takes you to renntech.org)

I purchased a pre-owned 2008 Cayenne S one owner clean carfax 18 months ago with 11,000 miles for $47,000 (bose, sunroof, nav, xenon, etc)

At 37K on the clock, check for recent service history (brakes, brake flush, oil change history, number of owners) Mine has been trouble free (24K on the clock). Except for gas mileage (14-15 city 18-19 highway on the "S" model) enjoy !!!

Thanks for info, will check those items mentioned. Are there any problems specific to the 6 cylinder models? Unfortunately my wife doesn't want an 8 cylinder car.

....none that I can think of. Test drive the 6 cylinder. The Cayenne is a very heavy SUV. The 6 will get better mileage than the 8 for sure. I liked the S for the extra features and the 385 hp

Thanks for input

Been real busy lately, hope to test car in next week or so. I hadn't considered the power-weight ratio of this suv, hopeful performance is acceptable. I want to have an almost all Porsche garage (p-cars will have to share space with 1971 BMW CSL).

I just bought an '08 Cayenne Turbo this week. Wow what a great car and twice as good of gas milage as my hummer H2.

+1 on the S. The extra tow capacity and HP are worth it. Many good deals out there, check Porsche's preowned inventory. However 6's seem to hold thier value a little better then the V8s, probably because of gas prices. The 2011 and up models get much better gas and are 400lbs lighter, plus a much nicer interior.

By 08 most of the bugs have been worked out. the 04-06 had the drive shaft and cooling pipe issues which for the most part seem to have been corrected by 08 (haven't heard of the failures like the 955's). There was no 07 model but an 06 Titanium Edition that gave you some standard extras and a little nicer interior/exterior trim options.

08 was the first year for the GTS, which to me is the best of both worlds of all the Cayenne models. Plus I think it looks the best.

I've owned an 06 S Titanium and now an 08 GTS. The only issue I have with both is 1) gas milage sucks and 2) they can go thru tires.

It's really what you want. Hope this helps.

I recently tested an 08 6cyl and was unimpressed, slow and noisy. I like the GTS
but not sure on fuel consumption, particularly if the the current energy czar gets his way and we end up paying euro prices ($9-10 per). Very helpful post, thank you. I think I will make a trip to P dealer and check out the newer models.

Off subject but do you have a Ferrari? What model? I'm chomping at the bit (no pun intended) to get into one, thinking of a 360 or 430.
