BC Coilover Install

Just got a quote for installing the coilovers and it was $1,000, 8hrs of labor...does that sound right? Oh, and that's without the alignment. They're going on my 09 Cayenne v6

Who quoted you? I'm local to you. I ordered my set yesterday and will have Autoscope in Park Cities install them. I forgot what they quoted but I will ask.

RAC, I was in for an oil change on Saturday and asked Solomon about it. He just replied to my email. Seems a bit drastic. If I recall correctly, it's like 3, maybe 4 hours to install max. And that's with lunch after a night of drinking. And no air ride...my uncle works for Park Place so I may ask if he knows anyone as well.

Let me know (if it's no trouble) what Autoscope says. And BTW-I read that TTG post you built. That's one SICK puppy, shame it's gone!

Hi guys, I do not have my Cayenne anymore but do have a 2010 Touareg which is the same platform. This post I did on my install might help.

http://www.clubtouareg.com/forums/f4...tdi-50095.html

It was only about 3 hours total at my brothers work doing it for the first time. We did have access to a lift however.

Reborn, your post was my primary reason for going with the BC instead of KW, so thanks a million for providing that information. I know it's easier not to post it, but that stuff really helps!

Any negatives after driving on them for a while?

Have had them for over a year. Doing very well actually! The one thing is be careful how low you go since the ride can get a little rough if you drop it too far. I recently did a canyon run with the local VW crew and was able to keep up with all the GTI and Corrado guys! Of course, I am also running the Cayenne GTS sway bar package as well which helps.

Yeah I think the max I'll go is 2.5" and I'm debating on keeping the 20's or going with the 22 Rinspeed style.

RAC3ME, if you're still interested in those 22's let me know and I'll send you a link to the ones I'm considering.

Dave, do you have any popping or noise coming from the coilovers? I'm thoroughly confused after talking to the installer again. In his experience, the coilovers aren't the way to go and said I should use springs. But many on here say the springs ride like crap and to go with coilovers.

I'm just looking for something that enables me to modify the stance of the vehicle while not losing ride quality. Am I looking for the impossible here?

Nope, no noise at all in my over a year of driving on them. The only issue I found out about is that if you go too low the upper a-arm can hit the top of the fender and large bumps. This is a design issue of the Cayenne/Touareg and would happen regardless if you used coilovers or springs to lower it too far. The good news with coilovers is that you can play with the height settings to get the lowest point while maintaining a good ride.

You can't do that with just springs!

We can do it for $561.50 with alignment. We are in San Antonio, TX.

You open on Saturdays? If so, I'll order the coilovers and set up an appt.

Oh, and a question on the Fabspeed cat bypass...have you installed it and actually seen an increase in HP as claimed? I can't actually find any valid data on it for the Cayenne v6.

DBC is spot on I paid $500 for the install and had the alignment done elsewhere for $80 wigwams.
There is a trick to the initial setup that you want to follow to get your Coilovers set right. Click on my sig link and look for my coil over project. I explain how you want to set them up before they go in the truck.

Thx Rox, I'll check out your thread for more info. Looks like I'm going to drive 3.5hrs to get the install done @ DBC, which is fine considering they've installed the same coilovers before and nobody here in Dallas seems to have a friggin clue.

Does anyone know if there is more labor hours involved in replacing springs vs. coilovers. I have gotten quotes of $1000 for labor plus alignment for springs. Seems like you can do coilovers at home with the right tools and jack/stands. Or am I pipe dreaming. I wrench on my car but have not done heavy suspension on a porsche before. My wrangler was cake walk to add springs and lift the thing.
