Woul you do it?

I have 2004 CTT 97600 miles needs a transmission. I talked to the shop and the mechanic suggested selling my car for parts b/c it costs 5000 for a transmission and Porsche is not reliable and high cost of maintenance.
I love German car and more familiar with BMWs. I have three of them, and not knowing much about Porsche. What you guys think?
When I bought the CTT few months ago, I want to keep it for few yrs. Unfortunately, the CTT needs another transmission. Thanks in advance for suggestion and inputs.

IMHO, used cayennes are best suited to those who are extremely savvy with a wrench and can do just about everything themselves that is possible without a piwis. it seems like it's the luck of the draw with these things. I was able to put a hundred and twenty-five thousand abusive miles on mine without any real issues.

Wow, tough call. When I was looking for someone local do do my trans valve body there didn't seem to be many people with experience on these transmissions.

It is an aisin transmission not some one off Philippe Patek.......get a second opinion or buy a used one transimission but what's eating them up to begin with? ......shouldn't be more than 2k if you source a used one?

These are a labor of love.......I have a 170k mile DD and I am looking to add a CTT e81 power pack to my stable, High mileage welcome.

You might need to get 2006 and above but I would not just walk away and scrap it, besides some one will buy it from you that has the passion.....I have the local dealer all over me saying your car is about to fall apart, you need a new one.......since below 100k miles.......

Its most likely the valve body that's giving you trouble.

Anyone should be able to touch it, its an AISIN. If they cant touch AISIN tranmissions they shouldn't be in business. I think they were scared about damaging something else. But 5 grand seems pretty high. Where were you looking at rebuild kits?

I called two shops and they said they don't have the capacity to diagnose the transmission. They take the suggestions from the dealer which is replace transmission. I tried to talk them into doing VB but they don't want to do it. They said they don't want to waiste my money. I found a shop claims that they have a Gold-Meister level technician. Will bring the car to them on Monday and see what happens. It keeps showing incorrect 2nd gear ratio.
I also found a used transmission 87000 miles, 1 yr warranty for 2400. It wil be around 5000 to have it done.
