Bent my techarts :(
Bent my techarts :(
I went to tire kingdom to get my wheels balanced because my car was vibrating and it turns out 2 of them are bent. They're sending the wheels to a company they use to refinish them. Now I have some questions, First off they quoted me 350 per wheel (that includes repainting etc.) but he's gona see if he can get a better price since there are 2, is this an alright price? Next thing will the place know what kind of paint to use on the techarts since its like a weird silver. Another one of my rims has a curb rash so I think I might just repaint them all should I paint them the normal color, get them painted the same silver as the car, or paint them black wit a silver lip. Also when a rim is re-straitened does it come out good and is it the same quality ( the rims arent horribly bent you cant tell from the outsidem, only when u spin them on the machine). Last thing I have never hit a bad pot hole or anything so I don't know how they bent. The worse thing Iv'e ever hit are railroad tracks on the way to school going like 30-40. I think it might have been when I took my car into service. My alignment was a little off so I took it to get realigned and when I get my car back the steering wheel is turned sideways to go strait. I just figure they meesed up on the alignment. The after this is when I notice that my car is vibrating at like 80. I think it was the dealership. What should I do?
To fix the bent, the paint has to be stripped, heated, pressed, cooled, repainted. The repaint should be as good as new. However, the rim maybe slightly softer given it was reheated. I would not worry about it though.
How long ago was the car taken to the dealer? If it's 1-2 wks, you may have some recourse. If it's over a month, I doubt it. However, they charged you for the alignment and the car isn't staight? I'd take that back and also complaint about the wheel. Alignment doesn't usually involve an extensive test drive. If you recall the mileage at drop off and pick up, I'd think you may have a case.

It was about a month ago and I dont remember the mileage. They realigned it for free about a week ago and I thought that the the wheels just needed to be balanced as they looked fine. Have any of you ever had to repair a rim?

Also one was bent really really bad, it ended up cracking when he tried to fix it, luckily I had a spare from when my dealer scracthed one. let me know if you want my guys name & number.

I know exactly how I bent them.... I was doing about 65 and hit a 3-5 inch dip the road, that dip was before one of those sewer man holes, so it was a big dip then a flat round pipe hole which equals four bent rims, I was pissed to say the least.
