Cayenne for towing...

Question: I am looking at my options for a tow vehicle/suv. We will be towing (eventually) my 996 in a trailer.

Wife will most likely be the driver of the vehicle when we are not together.. Anyone here use a CayenneS to tow? If so what do you tow? We drove a S model for a week and loved it. Almost that sports car feel in a SUV. We test drove the Caddy Escalade and HATED it. Felt like a supertanker.

Plenty of power to pull, I've towed my 996 a couple of times. I would highly suggest air suspension, make for a smooth ride and it will also level the vehicle when towing.

Plenty of power i take? Wife and i really enjoyed the week we spent in one, and our only concern was how it felt towing a car/trailer. With your GT3 and trailer, are you pushing the limits in it?

I wouldnt want to tow much more than our GT3...but keep in mind, its a 22ft. trailer than I can stand in without hitting my head (and Im 6'3''). And there is now way we could be towing this stuff if the trailer werent aluminum.

It has a 7500 pound tow capacity so you are fine with an aluminum trailer even enclosed. If you want to make things easier get a brake controller and you will have no issues towing your car

Just traded my 04 S for a 06 turbo. Turbo much better. My S had the adjustable suspension which really helps out with the ride while towing. The biggest problem with towing is the short wheel base, but it seemed to be ok. The weight of the aluminum trailer really isn't lighter than the others. Also, after owning about five different trailers, all the manufacturers are way off on the weights.

I know for a fact that our 22 ft. aluminum ATC full with a spec miata and parts weighs about the same as our last 18ft. reg. trailer completely empty...we weighed them.

Well, I would check your scales. While I wasn't able to find any listed weight for the 22ft ATC trailer(they don't list it) or featherlite trailer, an 18 ft Wells cargo weighs 2900lbs(listed in their literature). I also race a spec miata which weighs about 2150lbs without me in it. I would assume with extra parts and stuff another 500lbs. That would put you in the range of 250lbs for your trailer.
Like I stated in my other post, I have owned 2 featherlite trailers, a Wells Cargo and now a Pace. There hasn't been a great deal of weight difference in any of them other than options added, full built in cabinets weigh the most. The only true light weight trailer is the Trailex open trailer. You can move these around by hand.

Those numbers would be fairly close if I was talking about an 18ft Wells Cargo trailer, but I am not. Our 18ft. trailer was custom made by a place fairly local to us...it was a tank. We pulled it with our GMC 2500 HD w/ 8.1. Im not sure what the listed weight is of our 22ft ATC...but it is fairly close full to the same weight as our 18 footer. I dont mean to be argumentative here at all, just stating what I have experienced. Only thing I can go off of is a semi scale and feel. My buddy and I can move our ATC by hand...it is nice.
