Almost time to go to snows & thanks to you all

Okay, it's almost time to go to snows here in the northeast. I have my original 17" wheels set aside for snows, and my 18" turbo wheels will come off for the non-snow season.

Porsche recommends the Dunlop GrandTrek WT M2, the Perelli Scorpion Ice & Snow, and the Continental 4 X 4 Winter Contact, but what really matters is the experience of people like you guys in this forum who actually drive the Cayenne.

CamNeelyphile and Kooser have told me good things about the Perellis, what do the rest of you think?

This forum is great; the wealth of experience that can be gleaned from the people in this forum is immeasurable.

Thanks for all the great info, plus all the fun and spirited discussions.

I've tested Pirelli's Ice and snow , went to Lake tahoe about 10 times when i had my Cayenne Turbo.. never let me down , even on 3 winter storm..
I say get the Pirelli, also doesnt affect the ride and it's high speed rated..

btw I also like the Geolander HT-S, i had it on my CayenneS , I would've gotten it again
but they require higher speed rating on the CTT.. the Geolander has highest rating in tirerack
at that point I'm not sure now... call Damon at tirerack

Picking up the Pirellis

Thanks for all your help, I got a deal from a local guy who sold his Cayenne and am picking up a set of Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snows on a set of OEM 18" turbo wheels. I'll have to e-bay the 17" wheels and tires that came on my car since I had been saving those wheels for snows- doubt I'll get that much for them.

I just installed my snow tires last weekend. I went with Bridgestone Blizzak DMZ3 in size 235/60/18 mounted on 18-inch O.Z. Canyon STs. It's by no means a sporty winter tire, but it was highly recommended to handle the deep snow we get in Central Oregon.

Here's a before shot:

Here's a couple of after shots:

I miss my 22's already...

Why didn't you use your turbo wheels for the winter? Those canyons st's don't look to good in 18's.
nice set of 22's though

My Cayenne came with a set of 19-inch turbo wheels. I wanted to go with 18-inch wheels for optimal snow performance (we get a lot of snow here, plus there are times when I have to travel over the mountain passes). That said, I agree with you that the Canyon STs look much better in larger sizes...oh well, one more reason to look forward to summer...

I agree, 18' is a good choice for snows.
Roads get rough here and I wouldn't want to be in anything larger when I run into those pot hole ridden roads.
I also have a set of turbo wheels with Turanzas for the rest of the year, but would love to move to a set of 20" Techarts. 22" is asking for trouble in my mind.

+1 for Pirelli's.

I drove through the Vail pass in Colorado through ice patches on the highway and snow falling with no problems.

Last week, where I live, we got about 8-12" in one day. No problem plowing right through with assured grip.

I feel ya.

After riding on 22s I just couldn't bear to see my car with the stock 18s on again - they would look so diminutive now. So I was "forced" to get 20 Sport Technos with snow tires. I am still holding of as long as possible to switch them out, like after Thanksgiving, but I may get slapped here in Chicago.

Looks are not ererything, actually safety should be first.
Is there any real comparison article out there that test 18 vs. 19 vs. 20" snow tires that shows tremendous superiority with smaller tires in this range?

BTW emmisary, once again -love the Kahn design wheels!

Check out Oproulx's post on 10/22. He posted a link to his previous post where he tells the tales of his dealer's winter driving seminar- Pirelli Snow & Ice was the victor on smaller whells.

I have an appointment at the dealer on the 16th for my 10k service and the change over to snows.

Thanks again Oproulx!
