Love this mod, is it a plug and play? or do I have to remove the lift gate interior trim panel to acomodate any aditional parts?
Please let us know.

EasternLI is infamous around these parts
it was plug and play for me because i dont have the backup camera integrated into the tailgate handle like Turbostang so i had more room to place the resistor and wires inside the small void. Turbostang took apart his tailgate to place the resistor, etc, he could probably help you more if you need to know how to go about removing the cover, etc

Thanks, I dont have the camera either.
So no need to secure the resistors, they just stay put? no noises, creaks, etc?
How about the light, ist it pure white like BMW's or blue?

Yeah everything just gets crammed into the small space so no need to secure it because it has nowhere to go, the light is very white, take a look at turbostang's pics

A simple plug n play mod for the Cayenne w/o the back up camera.
Cayenne with back up camera, Liftgate interior panel need to be remove. (5 torx screws, the rest are snap on clips.) The resistors mount inside the lift gate. The wiring connecting to the resistors need to be extended. (wiring supplied is too short)

I installed the ECS LEDs this evening, 2012 Cayenne w/ backup camera. No need to take off interior panel, everything fit fine, although it was a very tight fit. I placed the resistors inside the opening toward the center, and placed the connectors to the outside. When this is done, by flipping the light housing with the clip to remove the housing to the outside provides the room necessary. I believe the original housing have the clips to remove the housing to the inside, so if you try it that way, it will not fit as the larger part of the LED housing will be bumping against the resistors, by flipping the housing the other way it fit. The lights look great when installed, enough so my wife commented on it when I initially installed LEDs on my Boxster Spyder and asked me to install a set on her Cayenne. It took about 20 minutes to do both sides.

Nice, and congrats on not having to take apart the liftgate.

The resistors does get warm, you guys know how hot the 5 watts bulb can get. The resistors have to act like a 5 watt bulb so no error code will pop up. Is a tight fit not alot of breathing room for the resistors. I didnt want to take any chances of melting wires, ruining the paint , damaging the rear camera, the power lift gate lever and etc. Last thing I want is Porsche voiding my warranty cause of a $50 mod. Extra 15-30 mins removing the liftgate interior panel, extending the resistor wirings using 16-18 gauge electrical wire and mounting the resistors properly for the heat to dissipate could save alot of headache if something goes wrong with the resistor overheating.

Excellent advise!! Sometimes a little caution and extra work can save you from a major headache later on.

I do realize that I am replying to a 10 Month old post, but I recently picked up a 2013 Cayenne and I am very interested in this mod. Is there anyway I can get some pictures / help on the install? I do have the backup camera, so here's what I'm unclear about:

1. How to remove the interior panel
2. Which wires to cut and lengthen - the wires on the plug connector or the actual resistor units?
3. Where should the resistors be zip tied or tucked into?

No need to remove rear panel IMO - just remove existing lights by pressing the tab on housing, remove existing housing from wires (press tab on connection to seperate) and attach new led housing to the connection. I was able to fit all of the wires, connectors and transistor in the exisitng space without too much of an issue. Basically push the transistor to the top of the opening and push to the outside of space and then fit housing back in the original space. For me the left side was easy, the right side is a tighter fit (I believe as a result of the camera). I just did it again to our GTS we picked up in July.

One of the earlier posts warned me that the transistor could get hot and damage the paint as a result of how I fitted the leds but we had no problem on 12 V6 and no issues thus far on the GTS.

The process took about 15 minutes the first time and less than 10 this second time around.

I hope this helps.
