Nifty lights and install
Though, just out of curiosity, why would I possibly want to make any extra effort-beyond standard lighting- to illuminate my plate?

LED licence plate lights are the trend in most luxury cars, same as front LED strips or even LED headlights over regular HIDs.
The regular yellow licence plate light cheapens the rear look at night, IMO they dont belong in a 2010 + Porsche. They are an option today as part of the extensive lighting package.

If they are an option today, can we just buy the OEM part?

Basically push the transistor to the top of the opening and push to the outside of space and then fit housing back in the original space. For me the left side was easy, the right side is a tighter fit (I believe as a result of the camera). I just did it again to our GTS we picked up in July.

One of the earlier posts warned me that the transistor could get hot and damage the paint as a result of how I fitted the leds but we had no problem on 12 V6 and no issues thus far on the GTS.

The process took about 15 minutes the first time and less than 10 this second time around.

I hope this helps.
ondarza, thanks for the advice. Just an update, so I went ahead and ordered the LED lights from ECS Tuning and installed over the weekend. You weren't kidding about the right side being a tight fit. It literally took 10 minutes and every imaginable placement configuration to tuck the resistor and wire harness into the small space (I did not remove the panel). One thing I did not expect was the lights are quite bright..maybe too bright. I'm gonna leave it for now to see if it grows on me.
Thanks for all the helpful posts.

Are you sure you ordered the right one? The harness should have two wires and two different plug ends. One small plug to the resistor and the other smaller plug end to the LED housing. The larger single plug on the other end of the two connects to the existing car's harness.
