Viability of changing exterior package after purchase

Just running this by you guys hopefully to be able to give me some informed opinions.

My vehicle came with the standard exterior package around the windows. Ideally I would have like to have the exterior package in black but I had to take the stock that was available.

Do you think that changing this to black after the fact is a viable option form a cost/pain in the *** point of view?

I guess buying the exterior package from Porsche then installing is one option, another is potentially to remove the existing trim, powder coat it and then refit?

Any thoughts /advice on this are greatly appreciated.

well i just came back from porsche today and asked how much would the exhaust of the turbo cost me now keep in mind that ordering the option from start would be almost 3 grand after checking with parts he told me it will go around 6 grand i,m not sure if every one got the same quote , or i was just delt a ****y hand. so i,m guessing for you its going to also be a big increase in price labor is a big factor too. i guess ur better off just coating it. or if it,s not that important to you keep it as is would be my advice

I actually had the opposite happen.
I ordered "Wheel arch extensions in black with side door protection moulding" after the car was delivered and down here in Australia it cost me $1250 at the Porsche dealer inclusive of installation.

"Wheel arch extensions in black with side door protection moulding" when buying new as a factory fit cost $2190 AUD

I checked the price with another dealer as well before going ahead and it was also $1250 through them, a considerable saving on getting it factory fit.

I have the silver trim as well. If I could change it to black I would. It looks hard to take off. I would probably pay for the trim kit if they sold it.

i wouldn't take them off and try to put them back on. more than likely you will end breaking a lot of clips and they will never secure correctly again.

another option you may want to look at is vinyl wrapping the pieces while they are still on the car. ive done this on a acura before and it wasn't too bad price wise.

Take a print out of what Suncoast is selling the PSE for and go to a different dealer. Give the print out to the service advisor and tell him you want that on your car and ask what parts and labor will be. I did that, and without asking they matched the price on the exhaust and quoted like 6 hours labor, it was like 4k with tax. This was at a different dealer than I bought from as well.

Vinyl wrap is a good idea, I concur with C4S.

Funny you post this, I sent the exact request to Suncoast yesterday. The answer isn't good:

I have work a quote for you with all the pieces to swap all the side moldings from you, the only problem I see is that you will need to replace the rear side glass because the molding is part of it. The parts total $1394.74 plus shipping
Is it possible to have the chrome prices painted gloss black?

Had it on my 997tt for 2 years and looked just like it did in install day. Just get a good material and with it not being on the front end and prone to rock chips you shouldnt have any issues.

Yeah, you will have to change the rear glass as well. It is all one piece. Sanding it down and painting it would be a far cheaper option if you know someone you can trust.

Are you sure it's all one piece? A friend of mine just changed the blacked out trim for the chrome trim on his 958 turbo at the dealer. When he booked it in they told him that the initial price was including the new rear glass. When he picked the car up they said they were able to do it without replacing the rear glass and they reduced the install price accordingly.

Seb.
