Please add 1 more Ravenol 2011 Cayenne S 29k miles (previously a south florida garage queen), has jerky shifts at low speeds.
I will run Ravenol a while and then replace with OEM to see if it makes a difference.
Well add me to the idiot list with a cracked the transfer case. had my torque wrench set to the differential fill and drain plugs setting and now I have a hairline crack under the plug.
Sanded the area then some JB Weld, no leaks for 1,400 miles. Just shame!!!
2011 CTT 159,800 miles. will drain (hahaha) now siphon and fill at the next oil change in about 3,500 miles. Thanks for all that shared there stories. Let you guys know what color the fluid is. The old was dark but nothing weird about the smell or content. Same with the diffs.
Going to a normal schedule 5K,for oil and filter and 15K for the XC and diffs. Oil is cheap.
Plugs, Brake oil and coolant at 30K.
Never had any issues with the XC just routine fluid change.

Aw man, that sucks. Well, now we know 'for sure' that it's possible to crack it. If you remember, what was the incorrect torque setting?
I remember reading in this thread 13 foot pounds .But double check, hand tight with an Allen wrench and use some high temp thread sealant. Plug is tapered so don't force it.
I monitored it for weeks and the average temp was 150 degrees. JB Weld is good for 500 degrees

My story is a PSA for any DIY'ers out there, looking to avoid others over torquing the drain and fill plugs. Porsche lists these plugs as on time use perhaps because of the sealant applied to them.
Yep, used the same plugs and hand tightened by feel. Geeze that's some tinky aluminum..I see how folks crack cases - so un-Porsche like.
I took the Pig to work for a week then took it off road this weekend, ran through all the ft-diff-lock and 4wd modes. Was horrified to discover I don't have rear diff-lock, only center dif-lock. I assume a 2011 Cayenne S has posi-track and probably doesn't need a locker. Does well on North Florida sand logging roads (big holes but all sand).
Seems like the lurching thing is gone but - I still question that drive train. i've had it checked at the dealer - they think it's OK but it sure whines and seems to bounce the car at light throttle & low gears. Of course all that entirely vanishes if you kick it down and put the 400 ponies to work...but my pockets are just aren't 't deep enough to enjoy driving the Pig "in a spirited fashion: way all the time

obviously I will ignore that, but surprised they don't recommend it at each 40k miles given they make more $.
Buzz- If your on the fence, do it its cheap insurance, the link is the cost for a new transmission $11,000.00
The XC case is less than $40.00, a simple DIY and under an hour less if combined with an oil change.
Synthetic fluids can perhaps double the service interval but last 12-16 years or 160,000 miles?
If you have it done, or DIY. Let us know what the fluid looks like and post a picture of magnets in the pan.
I did the transmission on my 996 a few years back after 30K and it was disgusting. That fluid is not a full synthetic. Its recommendation was every 90K.

There may be "no symptoms" of transfer case issues - but almost universally - when people with more than 50k miles on the transfer case oil change it - even when no obvious symptoms were present - it's an "Oh wow!" response.
Do it and let us know what you think about how it drives after the fluid is changed. And let us know what your fluid looks and smells like.
On the automatic transmission - mine is planned to do at 80,000 miles. I like to cut Porsche service intervals in half. Their recommendations are usually not for optimum life of the vehicle - but a reasonable life at minimal expense (which helps sell new cars.)
Porsche has different country service intervals - depending on the road conditions and typical use of the vehicles. I forget where I saw them - but the US isn't quite in the severe use category - but we're not far away. Most of the best use categories were in Europe.
Yes, original, I don't feel it made a noticeable difference, The front and rear diff's looked the same also original. However I plan to check to color at the next oil change.
