Ahh. OK. Woofers are the key to low end bass of course which is why I think I was disappointed in the very low end of the Burm because they are still mounted in a small compartment which prevents them from resonating down to a low frequency. Aftermarket car subs built in a properly sized box allow the speakers to go low enough. Even the cheap bazooka subwoofer
I have in my truck goes nice and low because of the cabinet size. Now an audiophile would say that the system is off balanced and not reproducing all frequencies evenly and they are right. I am just spoiled by the feel of deep bottom bass and prefer that sound.

If you want clean deep bass you can't beat an aftermarket sub and you can control the sub level which is unavailable in the factory systems.

I am going to take some CDs to the dealership and make sure to give a good listen to the different systems, but I am leaning towards the Bose.

Don't forget to listen to the PCM audio, I find the bass to be very good, perhaps better than the Bose.

TGED. You are getting me started on another issue which is none of these systems have more than treble and bass. I have always liked EQs to tailor the sound to my ear especially since different sources can sound different.

To quote my fav tennis player 'Johnny Mac':"You can't be serious"!!
I think they both are sup-par
Had a V6 loaner with Bose logos on the speakers..so I assume it was not the PCM..nevertheless,it sounded tiny and tinny
As someone that mainly likes to listen to live concert recordings, whatever system it might have been..sounded woefully inadequate
Though it did serve the purpose of reminding me just how amazing the B is
Ps:Regardless,I would most definitely pick PDCC+PTV over it!

When we bought our Panamera 4 we picked the BOSE without doing any comparison listening. This time when we ordered our Cayenne S we did not get the BOSE after comparing to the PCM system(not the base audio), we did not find the BOSE to be much different. In fact the bass on the PCM was surprisingly strong, as least as good or better than the BOSE, so I suggest all potential buyers to listen to all 4 audio systems before coming up to a conclusion.

You mentioned audiophile, so I have to push back. I'm hearing impaired, but even I can hear that the standard audio system sucks. Actually I had the PCM equivalent in my Touareg, so the standard actually must be worse. Doesn't matter how many speakers there are, both are still boring two channel. Go Bose, enjoy the surround sound. Trust me, you'll appreciated the push

Can the BOSE decide true Dolby Digital Surround or just simulated surround?

dcbigbaps, I don't see you getting the PCM/Navigation, you need ths option to get the USB input for your digital music server(ie. iPod). But upgrading to Bose or Burmester will not get you the USB input, you may otherwise use the analog AUX input but that will be inferior, as starting in MY 2011, Porsche uses true digital pass through on the USB input, therefore bypassing the iPod's internal D/A converter. Earlier Porsche audio system uses a 2-cable connection, one for the analog audio signal through the AUX port and the USB is strictly for iPod function control. Now the single USB connection is much superior.

If possible, that's the best way to go about your choosing
Keep in mind that even the Bose will play DVDaudios,so if you happen to have one, that could be an interesting way to tell the difference
Good luck

I agree. One person might hear a big difference and another won't so by all means try to get to the dealer with a cd that you know. I brought a cd with tracks that had deep low end and great overall studio quality. And of course bringing several is better.

PCM/Nav is included in in the basic Convenience Package. Have you actually seen a new Cayenne in this country WITHOUT that package? So assuming CP is on the build sheet, the USB port issue is a non-starter. Mine came with ports in my glove box, the center console, and the back seat.

In MY country, I did test drive a Cayenne without the PCM/Navi.
