Actually a LOT of bolts - most of the bolts on the engine are one-time-use aluminum security bolts. Including the valve cover bolts. You also need valve cover gasket and spark-plug-well gaskets. Total on parts - even from a discount parts dealer is about $1,500-1,600. I believe you also are going to replace the diamond-washer that keeps the actuator fixed on the end of the camshaft. Having a set of camshaft timing tools also will make the probability of a successful job much higher.

I am curious, did they charge 6.5 hrs of labor?

It looks like they charged 8, but because that was more than the SA quoted, they discounted it for me, so I can't tell for sure. The SA quoted $2400-$2600 and it ended up being $2697 after adjustments.

That sounds about right. Looks like they charged you list for the parts (a PCA discount is a handy thing to have - and it easily pays for a years dues the first time you use it on something like this) and gave you a deal on labor. Mine was about $2,600.

I do see people getting silly quotes from greedy dealerships. I can recommend Porsche of Monmouth, Rt 36, West Long Branch NJ - as not being greedy. Perhaps a list of dealerships that have done the job at a reasonable price would be a good way to repay the dealership for not being greedy.

Yours was done at?

List price on the parts from Sunset Porsche (either the WC-22 kit or priced individually) is just under $1500 based on written quotes from them but their regular discounted price is just under $1200. I know my local dealer has a ~25% markup over MSRP as they're the only player in town and that kind of ripoff puts the prices in the $1800 range for just the parts.

My local dealer (NorCal) gave me the below quote:

$3,585 total for the entire job (part/labor/etc).

"The parts needed are the same as listed in the WC22 service action plus two additional solenoids ($256.06 X 2). We have found that the solenoids can be problematic. We replace them because they are mounted next to the cam actuators."

Parts total - $2078.32
Tax - $176.66
Labor - $1,330

Do you have a part number on the solenoids? Is this an upsell or have other confirmed having issues with these solenoids?

I don't have a part number but I do have a picture (provided by the dealer). They very well could be upselling.

So far I haven't heard of anyone having a problem with the solenoids. Zilch. Sounds like an upsell to me. BTW - there may be an input screen on the solenoid that can be cleaned.. I seem to recall hearing something about this. It should only need cleaning if the oil has been neglected.

I received an $500 Goodwill Voucher offer from PNA.
Not excited about it, although better than most have received. My past year repair list exceeds most others I would have to assume

I guess the voucher is redeemable at any friendly local Porsche dealer for goods or services?

You did good there..

Got any links for that?

Another chap and I have been doing a bit of research - and he has gotten the aluminum tamperproof bolts out of one of his old adjusters - but the bolts are not at all a common size or shape. And I know of no availability of them from Porsche.

You might be able to source them from BMW - who used a similar adjuster from the same manufacturer, had the same problems and DID issue a service campaign to replace the bolts.

More info on your suggestion would make this thread more useful.
