Cayenne Wheel Arch Extension Option - Is it required?

Dear all, newbie here seeking some advice:

We are selecting options for our new Cayenne. I was wondering if the "wheel arch extension" option is mandatory for any 20 or 21 inch rims to work, or is it simply cosmetic?

Reason I ask is that the Cayenne we are building will come with 19 inch rims, but there's a good chance that we will be sourcing a set of 21 inch rims aftermarket. Therefore, I want to know if I must take out the wheel arch extension option now so that our future 21 inch rims will work.

If it is mostly cosmetic and not really required, then are there any actual benefits other than looks that I should be aware of?

Any advice welcomed, thanks.

cosmetic. Not necessary. However, will allow you to run wider wheels without poking look.

Thanks!

If I go with set of 21 inch rim (10 inch wide) without the extensions, will the face of the rims be sticking out or just about flush?

Since most of us with GTS's are running spacers with their 21" Turbo II rims, I'd say you'd be fine without the arches.

It's tough to tell what the "wheel arch extensions" are from the site, I have them on my CTT, but I'm not sure what it looks like without them - is this the plastic black piece under the painted exterior?

Yes, it's the plastic black piece. It's actually very subtle and advertising pictures are kind of misleading. The standard ones are basically flat against the body, but the arch extensions are only very subtly flared out by a few mm. I was actually kind of bummed by how subtle the difference was. The bottom inside is flat across towards the inside so doesn't help with fender clearance. It's completely cosmetic in the most minor way possible.

Agreed. Exactly what two Porsche dealers told me (Minneapolis and Chicago).
IIRC, one of the dealers indicate the flare only adds about 7mm.

Since i have 21x10 (OEM Turbo IIs) and 20x10 (Victor Zehns) wheels with no fender flares on my CTT, i can say that it seems just fine without.

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated. We are debating between black, jet black metallic, or meteor grey. It's hard to decide. We'd like something elegantly sporty. Any input?

I had a choice between two nearly identically equipped CTT's. One was Black and the other Meteor. While the black looked phenomenal when all shined up (sporty and mean), the Meteor looked sporty and elegant imo.

I actually had the black one reserved in my name but changed my mind a few days prior to pick up.

Plus, the Meteor should be easier to keep clean and show less swirls.

I would have chosen pretty much any color other than black (which is what I have). I wish I had a chance at a meteor grey! White looks great as well... as does red, etc. I picked mine up off the lot, so color was the last of my worries... if I could have ordered it I would have gotten something cool.

For me it was between JBM and Meteor Grey. Ultimately I went with JBM and have no regrets.
