I believe the argument is if you have a tune, the increased boost might lead to a failure. From all the post I've read, the 3 mods (tune, IPD, diverter valves) complement one another. I picked up mine used from a fellow 6speeder so it wasn't terribly expensive.
I haven't read of a cracked plenum in a Cayenne so I think you should be ok. I did a google search for "cracked plenum intake" and there were some results, albeit not for Cayennes.
OK... I just keep seeing IPD's claim of "The factory plastic intakes are also prone to cracking, especially with Cayenne Turbos producing higher boost levels. The IPD Plenum will not crack and will handle the highest of boost levels."
keep seeing this pop up in marketing posts and as a long time Cayenne owners I just have not seen or heard of anyone with this issue. Recently read a review on this upgrade plus tune and really thinking hard about whether I want this piece or not.
To be honest with you - unless you are running high amounts of boost for an extended period of time, the average user won't be able to determine if the plastic intake plenum will fail over time. I've never seen one crack, and we've done over 20+ Cayenne turbo IPD installs. Clients come in to change them out for the performance aspect, not so much the fear that the stock unit will fail.
What I can tell you is that the IPD plenum does indeed work, and is one of the best bolt on mods you can do to these cars. The machined IPD plenum has the benefit of not ever cracking as well...if that's something you may be concerned about in the long run.
Sent you a PM as well -- maybe we can convince you to give it a shot! We've got a 100% satisfaction guarantee, install it - if you don't like it for ANY reason, we'll take it back no questions asked. We haven't had anyone so far that wanted to go that route, but the option is always available

I think the challenge folks are having is that no one (manufacturer, vendor, or owner) has ever shown the stated performance increase of the IPD plenum with a dyno chart, additional 30+ horsepower and 32+ foot pounds of torque.
I have a 970 Panamera Turbo customer waiting to get his car dyno'd after installation of the IPD plenum - I'll post the results once I receive them. Same basic layout as the 958.
While I'm not here to reinforce or debunk any manufacturers dyno claims (especially specific #s)- I'm more than confident that these products do make a substantial difference. I think all owners of said product would also agree.
While I understand any and all skepticism - with the 100% no questions asked satisfaction guarantee - I'm having trouble seeing the downside to giving this a shot! In fact, I'd be more than happy to provide anyone the direct cell phone # of Mike K, the owner of IPD - if you need further reinforcement.
If that's not standing behind a product, I don't know what is! We are all about complete transparency here.

Hey Jason,
I think we all look forward to seeing the dyno numbers when you get them!

I don't think we are looking for a confirmation of IPD's posted numbers. At least I'm not. It's more of a curiosity to see if there is any significant amount of change.
Personally I have this installed and I don't regret having the mod done. I had the IPD Plenum installed along with AP diverter valves and after I noticed that boost increased quicker and levels were held longer.

I agree there is no downside when you are offering a satisfaction guarantee like this! Looking forward to the results.
I will admit I have been skeptical about this mod for years! Jason has graciously offered for me to try it out at no risk and I am taking him up on it! I have a dyno local to me so if I can get before and after I will. I also have v-box so can take some performance numbers too if I can get the time to do so...
I'm looking forward to finally putting the debate to rest (at least as far as my opinion will be concerned)
Thanks again Jason for stepping up and offering to help educate me on the benefits of the Plenum.
I did with the EVOMS intake on my old 955 CTT - the plastics welds won't hold up to increased flow without an upgrade to IPD in my opinion. Otherwise I've not seen or heard of one break.
My plastic piece of crap oem plenum broke.
However, it was not due to over boost.
Long story short:
I was replacing the plenum anyways, and a piece broke way too easy.
Glad to have an upgraded IPD Plenum knowing what i know now....
I'm currently working on a DIY IPD Plenum replacement with pics and insights of what to do....and what not to do
OEM 958 plastic Plenum broke at the very center section where a plastic port easily broke off during replacement.
