Anyone done the Cayenne 958 PCM map updates themselves?
http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKU958PCMU.html
Suncoast site states dealer activation required?? My 997.1 TT maps said the same thing but is was just follow the steps listed on the screen.

Great question! Wonder how the maps arrive? USB thumb drive? Did my '06 Cayenne maps (and software) - but that was basically replace the DVD. Maybe ask Suncoast? They've always been helpful when I've spoken with them..

I believe they come on a DVD. On my 997.1 TT You had a CD that updated the firmware on the PCM. It added how the points of interest worked. Then you inserted the map DVD. Whole process took about 30 minutes. Engine needed to be running. Just not sure if the process in the same on the Cayenne.

I have been informed that the dealer DOES have to install the map update because it is a software download and not a DVD install. Well that bites!!

Question is how is the software download done? On wife's Lexus - it's done via a USB thumb drive. It just gets plugged in, and it's downloaded to the hard-drive on the GPS.

Maybe a Google will turn it up.. it appears the dealer does have to code in the update. Bummer.

Had this done back in December. They had several discs to load via a laptop, took two hours to complete. There are probably other, faster methods, but this is what they did.

Wow. Dumb. A thumb drive is really the way to go on this.. guess Becker/Porsche are still a bit behind the technology curve (thumb drives in large capacities have been out for about a decade..)

I believe 100% this is to stop copies from getting out.

function - they could do the same thing with a thumb drive.. Lexus does - and the dealer has to install it and code the GPS to recognize the new mapset.

no way, just compare with old version)
OR You can try upload maps one after one starting from latest one, but this will not confirm real cerrent data, just will see how old license code you have.

I stopped by a dealer last week and asked about updating the Cayenne maps. I was quoted $420 for the new version and 4 hours to load it. So for $900 I walked out. I also needed a different version for the 911.

Ordered Analogue is infamous around these parts
Was quoted the equivalent of $1120 to upgrade to the 2015 maps. With the way our roads change, I've already noticed some changes on my 2016 GTS, so makes no sense for me to upgrade. I wish there was an easier/cheaper way, I LOVE the added 3D buildings in the 2015 maps.

Really irks me that even with a sim card slot + PCC, Porsche does not fully take advantage of on the fly updates. Hopefully with the release of the new Panamera with the overhauled PCM things will finally be easier.

All - is the 2016 Cayennes likely to get Apple CarPlay? Given the USB port that would (if an ios user) be worth the upgrade.
