Clock Problem
Reports on the Interwebs make it appear this is the norm, not the exception. Unfortunately it doesn't appear user serviceable (sealed case). For vehicles under warranty it sounds as if Porsche is happily swapping them out with new ones (where the second hand is waiting to fall off.)
Yes, that is my concern. My cayenne is under warranty till 12/2016; and they are going to replace the clock next week. But when the second hand falls off in 2017 I will have to foot the bill.
How much would this cost?
same thing happened to my clock. the dealer wasn't surprised. the new one has been fine so far! my understanding is they re-engineered the clock to cure this common defect. i think you'd have a good case to make to your dealer / pcna if a known-to-fail clock failed post-warranty . . . .

This was a big issue for MY12 through mid MY13. It has also been sporadic through other MYs as well, but that range seems to be the worst.
Usually you seem to have to go through a couple of iterations first (or back in the day where they would keep your car for months waiting on a new clock
), but getting them to put the Sport Chrono module in there rather than the Analog clock seems to be the best answer.

Not sure if the dealer would be willing to just insert the Sport chrono module instead of the analog clock for free though. But if they are willing.. I would def go for that option for the piece of mind and IMO it looks better.
I expect you could still get them to do it if it's already been replaced a few times.
I noticed you are in the same area as me. Which dealer is your go-to Porsche dealer here?

We bought her 996 new from Rockville and had much of it's service done there. In the same time we also had some bad experiences with Tysons when they were HBL.
Our salesman was still at Rockville so that's who I bought the 958 from (he retired while we were waiting on it to be delivered, but he came back for the delivery). My experience with their service department was sub-par to say the least up to and including swirling the paint really bad (e.g. not a simple buff out) when they washed it.
When Alexandria told me they wanted $675 for the OCI on my diesel I wrote them off my list of talking to ever again.
Since I gave up on them I've taken it to Tysons a few times and have been mostly satisfied. They treat me as if I bought the car from them so I still get a free loaner (my biggest beef with Rockville was issues around getting a loaner from them).
I have an Indy (IMA in Chantilly) do all the service work to it though as all the dealers are obscene for what they charge.
I try to avoid them all equally

Sorry for jacking the thread... but there is a lot of info here. Im a fairly new 958 owner and am looking for a Dealer for warranty issues and an independent for regular maintenance. IMA and Auto Sportsystems are the two I was looking at.
I was told to avoid Tysons for service at all costs but hearing your experiences makes me have second thoughts. Maybe I will give them a try since they are closest to me. I didn't have quite the best sales experience there though as I felt I was being watched like a hawk.
Question about loaners at Tysons. Would they loan you a Cayman if you are servicing a Cayenne? Or will they only give you a comparable car like a Macan or Cayenne?
Had them do a bunch of deferred maintenance on the 996 plus rebuild it's transmission last summer/fall. Other than the pain at the final bill (which he actually negotiated down quite a bit for me) I'm perfectly happy with what we got.
Ivan is also pretty passionate about Porsche's as he has a couple of race cars (944s?) and and old one (928?) that he drives. He had a 996 GT3 too, but just sold it last year. He loves the Cayenne too and had a blast when I let him borrow mine for a night so he could play with it (first he got to spend real time in a diesel or the 958 in general).

When we ordered the 996 we ended up waiting 2 years for our build slot because PCNA was still holding a grudge against Rockville due to how they handled the sales of 928s and 944s (way before my time, but I heard the owner at the time simply didn't like them and did all he could to not sell them). During that period a couple of things happened with Tysons/HBL.
The first was that the DC Auto show came around and had a Coupe with the Aerokit that she wanted. After the show it got allocated to HBL. We went down to look at it and while we were there then needed to move it out of the show room to get a Land Rover from the back out. This was their old show room that was raised up (not sure if that building is even still there) with a big ramp down the front. The guy that pulled the car out hit the bottom of the ramp at speed and crunched the front bumper bad, but no one seemed to care (he parked it and walked off without even looking).
The second was that the general manager happened to live around the corner from me and another car guy introduced us. He told us to come on in and he'd get us a car much faster than Rockville. We went and talked to them, but it was quickly apparent that they were going to bump someone else on the list to give us their spot and we weren't going to support that kinda crap (otherwise we would have ordered a Modena!).
I've known others that went to HBL and heard lots of stories about cars coming back with door dings and other things that they would of course deny (there was zero room in the old parking lot). Since they moved to where the Audi dealer is that seemed to clear up.
I wouldn't have given them a second look had I not gotten pissed with Rockville (the trickle down of one overworked SA is their main problem). So far so good though.
The sales side still seems to be as slimy as ever though. I went to them to test drive a Base 958 before ordering mine and they left me 10 messages in 2 days on the Google Voice number I was smart enough to give them. I avoid looking at the new cars when picking up or dropping off the Cayenne as even though they are all in ear shot when you tell the first one that you are just picking up/dropping off, they all come up and ask to help you out.
