How to stop settings from resetting?

I've tried to turn off comfort access but it always seems to reset to "on". Same thing with the tilt down passenger mirror on reverse. I don't need it all the time and when I turn it off, it will reset to "on" again. I put a new battery in my keyfob and that didn't change anything. I'm probably missing something if someone wants to clue me in on it.

I find depending on the key to be flaky and have experienced similar things as you have described. Complained about it a few times to the dealer and their response was "working as expected when tested".

I gave up and just use the memory buttons on door.

The trick is to lock the door with the key you want to use AFTER making the changes.

The key memory ONLY remembers the latest settings if you lock the vehicle with that key.

If you don't, and use something like the door-handle locking feature - next time you use that key it will reset everything to whatever it was set to last time the key was used to lock the vehicle.

And you can always use the memory buttons on the door - but that requires selecting the memory button whenever you get into the vehicle.

Do the memory buttons correspond to a particular key? Or are the keys memory selections in ADDITION to those on the doors?

My 958 is on order, so I can't actually try anything yet.

The key memory is in addition to the door button memory.. although on mine I try to keep button 1 synced to my primary key..

How many keys can be added? And are they field-programmable? As in, can I just buy another key and use existing ones to pair it to the vehicle? Or does it require being programmed by a shop?

I find it's best to have three; his, hers and the spare.

Don't know about how the memory would work with more than 2 keys, but you need a PIWIS to program it to your vehicle.

I suspected as much. Many other vendors allow for end-user programming of new keys by using two existing ones. As in, you can't add another key unless you have two of them already programmed.

One more situation where it's "because... Porsche".

Yes the key is to lock the car with the FOB button and WAIT until the little red light on the door STOPS flashing.
This was driving me crazy too until I found a youtube video talking about all the steps.

Ok, after reading all the replies and messing around with the car a little bit, I think I've figured it out.

I believe the key is to SAVE the settings everytime you make a change using the seat memory buttons. This car is my wife's daily so she has setting 1 and I have setting 2. So basically, if you change a station preset, or change any other setting on the car to your liking, SAVE it right away using the seat memory buttons. For instance, I was changing one of the preset stations while driving and right after I did that, I hit seat memory 2 button and it reset to the previous station right away.

After reading the replies, I tried saving my settings by just locking the car and it still wasn't working. Maybe a reply suggested using the seat memory buttons but I was too focused on locking the car to save the settings that I probably misunderstood anyone trying to key me in on the seat memory buttons.

And what did you expect it to do? It thought you wanted what was saved under seat memory #2 - you hadn't told it you changed anything by pressing "SET" then "2"..

Depends - on early 958.1's you don't have to use the seat memory. If you lock the car with the remote - it saves what your settings currently are. That's a problem with handing the key to a valet - if they move the seat, then lock the car with the key - the new seat position is now linked to that key.

That's IF your seat memory buttons are ("SET", "1". "2", "OFF")

I noticed some newer ones (958.2?) have eliminated "OFF" in favor of a "3" for a 3rd memory slot. The "OFF" was used to eliminate the valet problem - you press it until it beeps, that turns the key memory recording off. Might be the newer one with 1-2-3 positions has automatically made it never record anything except what memory button was pressed. In this case - if you have that setup - it's probably correct, it will only memorize it if it's set first with the seat button.

That's all in the owners manual.
