2013 Cayenne Diesel

I've always loved the Cayenne, it's certainly more of a "Sports" Utility Vehicle, where the Rover is more of a Sports "Utility" Vehicle... the entire time I owned the Rover I missed the driving dynamics of the Porsche. So while the Rover is a pretty car, I'll never own another!
As for the Diesel, I couldn't be happier... I've had it almost 2 months now and have a smile on my face each time I drive it.
I was warned by a few friends about the reliability, and specifically went for the 2012 as it was a end of run model and I was hoping they had all the issues ironed out. Unfortunately they were not! I had numerous issues with the car, all of which were electrical related... and after 6 months decided it was time to admit failure and return to a Porsche

I also have a '13 CD on order for the family SUV and dog hauler. Coming from a Range Rover too which has been only mildly problematic. We like the RR, very comfortable, not sporty, but avg'd 15.7 mpg for the 3 yrs we've had it. I also noticed the small frequency vibration, a buzzy ride sometimes with the CD. I hope it doesn't bother me long term. My son has a '12 Toureg TDI that is as smooth as butter with no buzz... It's due end of January.

Greetings. First post. I also own a 13 Cayenne diesel (black w tan). This after having owned an M3, Z4is, 535, 740 - all new within the last 3 years. Ok so the M3 was a ball, but the thing was really loud on the i-state (I do a fair bit of interstate driving). Even at that, had no rear tire tread after 7K miles. The 5 and 7 were both disappointing - very sporty Buicks - although the 5 had some great seats. The Z-is was quick, but handled like a dog. Comparing to these - the Cayenne is amazing. Also have a 335d in the garage (2010). I think the BMW diesel is a bit better motor than the VW / Audi. But the chassis, steering, handling, ride - all other factors of the Cayenne are the best I have ever experienced in an interstate cruiser, and not by a small amount. Very pleased. I will agree that there is a bit of vibration coming through now and then - I suspect it is the AWD system as my BMW diesel never does this (or maybe the straight 6?). Porsche should have corrected this - definitely a negative. Overwhelmed by the amazing execution in the rest of the car. And a 750 mile range. Awesome. -And yep, I'm seeing 30mpg at "typical" interestate speeds. Love that full time AWD as well. So a bit of vibration that Porsche should be smacked for leaving in a car that is otherwise outstanding. And a vehicle that handles and brakes like, well, like you'd expect from a Porsche of this size. It is NOT a Cayman. But I've not been in another SUV even close , and I've driven them all.
** slight change of topic**
Has anyone seen any reference to Porsche's posture on use of cetane boosters. There are additives available that claim compatibility with the current adblue / amine type diesel systems. And this motor is VERY sensitive to diesel quality - noticeable difference depending on where I fuel it.
Finally - my dealer also told me to bring it back every 5k for oil (vs 10k for gasoline version). Didn't ask him why, was in too much hurry to drive it home. Thanks.

Ray C, NJ Porsche dealer changed an oil in my diesel today. I tought that after the first 5,000 miles the oil needs to be changed every 10,000 to 15,000 miles as per car computer recommendation and owner manual. Oil change with added blue $520.00????. Othervise love the car, torque, quietness. My 997 2S 2009 (oil change was 12,000 miles/$350,00) was traded for this more practical lovely SUV with huge torque and quietness. Love the car/truck/SUV. I have a good mechanic, do you think that he can changed my oil and reset computer. Porsche's mechanic mentioned that in 10,000 miles a fuel filter needs to be cleaned/replaced. The CD computer orginaly was pre-pogram for 10,000 miles but the manufucaturer recently reporgrammed CD computer for 5,000 miles oil change due to low quality diesel fuel in USA as Porsche mechanic. I have ask my salesman for a quote on service plan as well.
Has sombody have some ideas how not to be ruined on oil changes and a rutine maintenace of othervise an excellent SUV.

I love my car BUT the stealerships are destroying my motivation to remain with the marque! The outrageous costs for simple maintenance is a deal breaker. Also, mine breaks often and needs serious help approximately THREE TIMES A YEAR!
Recently, my friend told me she was getting rid of her CD. She likes the SUV but is going to get a second Mercedes. Why? Because the Porsche North Scottsdale dealer service bills are outrageous and when you consider she is used to paying Mercedes for their expensive service, you can bet her complaint is real.
Recently, I priced a brake flush. The last time the dealer in Anchorage did it, it cost me only $100 and I actually got a loaner car and they washed mine in the winter. But the Porsche of North Scottsdale dealership quoted me a cost of $175!
I told him I have to pass. BTW, I will be getting it done at another service shop for approximately $55!
I really want to a diesel but I am thinking that by the time I get a CD with the options I need, I could buy a hell of a well-equipped pickup truck for $75,000.
To think that the VW Toureg Diesel is much smoother than the Porsche CD, means the first issue of CD is something to pass on. This time it's definitely better to wait until the second model year. Hopefully Porsche will work out the vibration--that is ominius and unacceptable.
$520 for an oil change and cat **** replenishment seems about twice as much as it should be. Porsche dealerships vary tremendously.

anton and onecal- I posted the pre-paid service plan cost and what's included in the Cayenne 958 sub-forum here in 6speed. I guess there are not cross-posted. This thread about the Cayenne diesel should actually probably be in the 958 sub-forum as well...
anton- oil change and adblue for $520 seems outrageously high. several posters here and rennlist have paid less than $300. My dealer said maybe under $200. I'm sure independent dealers will do it for a lot less and it does not void warranty. Good luck.

Do you know some reasonable Porsche service around 50 miles of New York City? R. Catena in New Jersey was one of the most reasonable dealer around NYC for my 911 and his dealership is located in a suburb that means it does not need to pay outrages Manhattan's rent and his service is open on Saturdays too. DC is new and it looks like everyone wants to take an advantage of it included R. Catena. Porsche USA does not have any price range to keep their dealers in line? Or they really think that all Porsche owners are snobs? I'm really thinking to go for BMW diesel / or really still I want a diesel?? as a minimum a maintenance is included for 4 years/48,000.
