08 Cayenne Turbo 1/4 mile time? (Mine was disappointing).

Hello I went to the track this evening with my 08 Cayenne Turbo and pulled a consistent 14.02-14.07 at 102-103mph track times!! I am a little disappointed because I thought the vehicle should run a little harder. Anyone know what I should be looking for in particular to check if there is a problem? Or do you think its the weather? Outside temp was about 90 F and very very humid, think this would make a tremendous difference on the car? Thank you all in advance and regards.

Seems about right. What track did you run at? Your elevation will severely effect your times. Heat soak as well. Is heat soak an issue with the Cayenne? That will kill power. Also if you could post a complete run down of the time slip. Maybe should be a little quicker. What was your 60' specifically and what was your launch technique?

Time slips enclosed.
I ran at Palm Beach International. I am not familiar with heat soak, what is heat soak? As for my launch technique, what I did was held the brake, reved to about 1,500RPM, then just let off the brake. I have enclosed some of the time slips that I found. Thank you again.

For a stock CTT, those numbers are not too bad. High temp, elevation, and high humidity is a real problem for turbocharged cars. It sounds like you definitely had at least two of those issues to deal with.

I just found a motortrend article where a stock 05 CTT ran a 13.6@101.8 mph. The MY08 has a advantage with +40 hp / +56 tq with the newer 4.8 V8. So in the right conditions, you should expect atleast mid-13's stock.

This website has an 08 Cayenne Turbo as running a 13.1 1/4 mile time. I cannot vouch for this website, so I would take it with a grain of salt.

I think in cool weather you'd be looking at mid 13's at 103-105. That's right where you should be. I don't think these cars will do low 13's, that's just to optimistic even considering the face lifted model is a bit quicker

Keep in mind too, having options like 21-22" wheels (every added lb of spinning weight is 7lbs+ in the car), panaromic roof (150-200lb+), full tank of gas (100lbs), comfort seats etc. will slow you down a good bit. Just with this scenario your .5 of second is right there in just weight, ignoring the conditions you ran in

I have the OEM 21" wheels and nearly a full tank of gas. I just dont understand why my MPH (102) is there but not my time? I mean I pulled consistent back to back times, I would love to get a solid time before I install the EVOMS intake and the IPD plenum. Do you guys think that because of the extra weight humidity and hightemp the car didnt pull in a good time, even though the MPH is there? Or do you think I might be losing power somewhere? I mean it is a 08, should I do something to try to restore power to the vehicle? Maybe some new plugs and wires? Thank you in advance for all the insight, it has been very helpful. Regards.

Bring only what you need. I plan on pulling up to the 1/4 mile track on a quarter tank of gas - less weight.

I think this implies wheel slip off the line - not sure what stock 60' times should be for reference. Since I know the high gear ratio gives the CTT more of a soft launch - I am skeptical of this. Did it rain prior? Did you turn off PSM?

It is direct coil on plug, so no distributor wires to replace. If you are close to 40,000 miles on the odo you might want to consider swapping out your spark plugs. Suncoast parts currently has them for $128 plus shipping.

Yes I had PSM off, and it did not rain prior. I had no wheel spin at all, maybe I should try to launch at a higher RPM also. I was launching around 1,500RPM (in that area). What is the optimum launch RPM?

Ideally, you'd want to see some boost on the gauge before you let off the brake, but I don't know if the Cayenne's e-throttle will allow that.

Awesome, thank you. I will try that.

Yes, you can build boost while pressing the brake. Fellow 6Speed member es201nj has ran one the fastest times in a modded 08 CTT 12.392 in the 1/4 mile. He suggested fully depressing both accelerator and brake pedals at a stop to begin building boost up to where the brakes are about to lose grip (approx 2,000 RPM) and then release the brake for a more aggressive launch.

This is the method that I use, it feels very fluid when you do it properly.

Be careful though not to try to "hold" the RPM at that level since it will reduce engine performance. Not sure if that is through heat-soak or ethrottle.

I would try pressing the accelerator as much as possible for the best start. 1500rpm sounds low, but as mentioned do not do it for too long

The temperature and humidity IS slowing you down. Factor in .1-.2 seconds and .5-2 mph for that. People don't realize this but in optimal conditions (winter time during a dry day) the car will do much better

Went to the track again today everyone and I posted a new thread regarding my times along with my new mods. Thanks again.
