Question Indicator problems

Hi ,

I only recently bought my first Porsche , a 2009 Cayenne.

The right turn front indicator , the top one , has stopped working and a warning alarm sounds with a warning ( ! ) on the dashboard.

The Porsche dealer has said that the wiring in the light unit is 'melted' and both light assemblies have to be replaced.

This seems excessive and the cost is around $3000. Anybody else heard of this and advice would be welcome . thanks , Alan

Man I just had the same thing happen last week to me. I thought it was the bulb at first. I started by removing the head lamp unit and found the problem right away. It was all the wires in the harness where bare as the plastic has come off.
It's an easy fix and the dealer down here in Costa Rica had them in stock for $100 each. I replaced them along with the fuse and wala all back to normal.

BG 305 , many thanks , what did the dealer actually replace , was it the wiring harness and not the lighting cassette ?

It's realli easy to take the lamp assembly out of the car as it is a 1 turn nut and it pops out. That pic is the wiring harness that feeds the entire lamp so if your wires where peeling like mine there is a good chance that they fused together. I would take out the lamp and check this first then check inside the lamp housing. The dealer just replace that wiring harness that feeds the entire head lamp.

Same thing is happening to my right headlight. What is this..? The season for the turn single to go bad?

I checked my fuse, bulb and the harness. The harness has so sign of wear and tear. Anyone else know what it could be? I might as well just replace the harness. Sonnen Porsche OEM parts have it for $38.70

I'm curious...did you black out the middle bar on your front main grille? Many thanks.

Take the harness out and flex the wires a bit. This should show you if the insulation on the wires is failing. Is it just the front? Does it work with your hazards on?

There are no frailing or cracks when flex. All signal comes on when hazard is on except the front right side bulb. Just ordered a new hardness.
