What do detailers use to get the engine bay so clean and sparkly?

I have seen some miraculous turn around in some engine bays that went from gunk to sparkling new. What chemicals are used to achieve this? I have a caterpillar that needs TLC in the engine bay and the windows have built up residue that can't be removed with just the high pressure wash anymore. Any tips on removal and cleaning?

P21S autowash
Boar's Hair Brush

Steady stream of water using a firehose nozzle or a pressure washer.

Black Wow (dressing

Phillip, is the high pressure what gets all the grim out? like all the excess grease, and oils? Or do you guys use a degreaser for that?

the p21s autowash get a lot of it out, a fire hose nozzle and hose should work fine.

of course the pressure washer would work better and quicker.

So you just open the hood, watch the electronics, and fire away?

I degrease first, use a dedicated brush for this. I like Griot's oil & grease remover
Then clean off dirt after with P21 TAW or Amazing roll off.

You will have to wash a dirty engine a few times, & use a stick with a MF towel to get in the hard to reach areas. Don't blast the water on the engine, just the sides & under it. Water can get into the "Hemi Head" spark plug holes & cause misfires. Older BMW's seam prone to this.

Then dry off, wax the painted stuff, & apply your fav plastic/rubber to everything else.

A good engine detail on a dirty car can take a couple of hours to do right.

This is my old DD with 90kmi on it!
