CR Spottless Resin Question?

I've had my CR Spottless for a year now and the meter # value indicated that I need to replace the resin as spots were forming on my car while drying.

When I opened the CR (DIC-20) up to put in new resin, I noticed each of the cylinders were two tone. The bottom 1/3 of each resin container was dark brown, but there was a clear separation line where the upper 2/3 of each resin container still had the same color as brand new resin. Is this normal?

I was temped to just dump out the first 1/3 of the dark brown resin and just refill only the 1/3 with new resin. However I didn't and dumped the contents of both whole containers. Is it possible that the water was not flowing up to the top 2/3 of both containers properly, or is this normal?

Thanks,
Steve

I'm sorry I don't have the answer to your question but how do you like it? I was thinking of maybe getting one if I can make some money washing cars.

Thanks

It works great. I'd estimate it leaves the car at least 95% spotless.

Before used the Mr. Clean spotless kit they sell at Target for $25 bucks, but that only left the car about 80% spotless. Plus for some reason it did not work on windows, while the CR does.

I'm a bit concerned about usage since I only got about 15 washes in before the spots started to show up more. I typically only used it for final rinsing too. Considering the resin bags are $100 for a pair, that's kinda pricy, but it definitely saves time.

Steve, that is the way mine always looks when I change the resin. I think this is normal. I haven't really thought anything about it until I read your post.

That's a great question Steve. Basically, the resin CR uses is a mixed-bed resin. This means the anion and cation resin is mixed. What you see in your canisters is the two resins separating. This does not mean the brown part is bad and the lighter amber color is good and can be reused. The only way to tell if the resin is no longer good is by the meter, anything above 030 needs to be changed, or if you notice spotting.

If you guys want, I can run a resin special for those already purchased the CR. If we have enough response, I can run a special.

Moe, thank you for the great explanation. Glad I didn't cheap out and try to mix the old and new resin!

I have a CR Spotless and think it's awesome. I would say it leaves the car 99% spotless, and my wife tells me that I need meds for OCD! If you have a large degree of spotting, make sure that you are thoroughly washing the car and thoroughly rinsing.

I have well water that's hard as hell, but also have a whole house water softener. I've probably washed 25+ SUVs with the CR and my meter still reads 000.

If you like the Mr. Clean system, you will LOVE the CR Spotless.
