Paint scratched off wifes car

OK, so it's a 2000 Honda Odyssey, but she likes it, and it's never had *anything* at all go wrong with it

I used it to get some stuff from HomeDepot a while ago, and accidently scratched the dashboard on the passenger side. I didn't realise, but the thing is painted from new with some sort of plastic paint, and now there is an eight inch scratch, quite wide, right in front of the passenger, where the "real" plastic molding shows through as a much darker grey.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get touch up paint or whatever for car dashboards? It's a 2000 Odyssey with a grey interior. I went to the Honda dealer, but they didn't seem to have a clue.

Can't find anything searching the internet either, but I'm not really sure what I should be looking for.

Many Thanks - it would be good to fix this and get a little out of the doghouse..

Graham

You may have luck searching for DupliColor. Available at most Auto part stores and they have a line of interior, fabric and plastic paint out. Not sure if they have something you need but it's a start. Is the dash hard or soft, maybe a vinyl repair kit would do the trick. Never used one but have seen it done before on boats.

I used this kit very successfully on a couple of M-B Tex (vinyl) upholsted seats
Vinyl Repair - Simply clean the surface you're going to repair, apply repair compound, and let it dry...then brush or spray on final colour finish. It takes about an hour and you can expect a flexible, long lasting repair. Repair Kit includes: Colour, Repair compound, Adhesive, Sub-Patch material, detailed instructions - Magic Mender

That actually looks like paint transfer from whatever object hit the dash. Was it black by chance? Try using your finger nail and see if it starts to rub the black off. If so, you can use a product like goo-gone and a microfiber towel and get the scuff off.

I think Moe is correct. Your dash is not scratched, it is marked from something rubbing off on it. You should be able to remove this with diligence. I would start with the least aggressive product and work up from there. Good luck.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I did just check again, and it's definitely paint scraped off - I started to polish it with a mild cutting compound but stopped as soon as noticed the mark getting bigger as more of the black was exposed....

I looked at the Duplicolor site, but couldn't see anything that was a perfect match (i.e. made to match the Odyssey). I suppose I *could* find the nearest match and paint the whole dashboard....

Oh - what hit the dashboard was the very sharp edge of a length of metal flashing for a shed roof.

Graham

Call your dealer and get a referral for an upholstery shop. They should be able to repair it for you. You can also try anyone that does mobile leather repair.

Are you sure it's a scratch?

a cheap thing to try would be on of those Mr. Clean Magic Erasers to see if you can remove the stain. I keep looking at the pic and for the life of me can't see that it's not something on top of the vinyl. Could be wrong, but it's just a thought of something to try.

If it is indeed a scratch, get in touch with George at Leatherique. He can probably put together a custom color to fix the dash for you. Tell him D! sent you if you decide to use him
